My K Co-teacher would like to do a Zoo or Jungle theme next year since almost each letter of the alphabet has an animal that goes with it. Which do you like better? Zoo or Jungle? Have you done either of them? If so .... any tips, ideas, suggestions that go with the theme? THANKS IN ADVANCE!

This is SO not my area of expertise. But I think you could get more mileage out of Jungle than Zoo. Exploring animals in their natural habitat HAS to be more educational than an artificial fascimilie of that natural habitat.
I chose jungle for much the same reason as Alice, I hate teaching kids that monekys "live" at the zoo.
Thanks! Now i"m SOLD on Jungle ... you're right .... more to learn! THANKS EVERYONE! Now I just need ideas or a cute "welcome slogan" or osmething.
I was going to vote for Jungle too BUT you're all pau. Some slogans... -My Jungle can take your Zoo anyday! -No Cages Needed Here! -Are You My Dinner? -And The Kids Say We're Wild? -Jungle It My Way! -Our Lion was the Animal of the Month Rebel1
i voted zoo, but after reading Alice's mighty words, i change my vote. not like it matters because you decided.
I suggest putting tigers in your jungle theme. They're a jungle cat and they are likely to be extinct from the wild by the end of the decade. Lots of good and interesting discussions can be had about tigers. There's also tons of reading materials and information on the web about them.
I have a jungle theme with the caption Learning is an Adventure. 3-d vine as the border then a 3-d tree on the door. The students' names are on the door using leaves that match the leaves on the tree. Other captions could be Wild about Learning Welcome to Mrs. E Jungle Welcome to our Learning Jungle. Vines can be hung in the class using green or brown bulletin board paper.
When I did the jungle theme, I had a monkey on a vine on my door and it said "swinging into Mrs M's room" My bulletin board had an inflatable monkey and artificial bananas glued onto it. Then I had paper bananas with the name of each child. The saying said "We're bananas about Kindergarten" or something to that effect.
One of my bulletin boards have the vine around the board and the saying is "Swingin' Good Work" which is where my student work is place
I originally voted zoo because there are so many animals that I would want to include that aren't found in the jungle. You could include the people who work at zoos, which might help with Job Chart ideas. I also thought it would be great to take a field trip to a zoo. After reading the other posts, I can see why Jungle is better though.
Did you see this thread from this morning. Awesome pics. http://forums.atozteacherstuff.com/showthread.php?t=108735 If it was you I apologize. Didn't look at the name.
Wow, learn something new every day. All this time, I had been thinking that pandas came from the jungles of Asia.
I did the vines around my white board and another bulletin board. The rest of my pics were on that other classroom theme post or at my website (which is also jungle themed): http://mrsreedsvirtualclassroom.com/
