At some point, it should be illegal for certain people to have kids. Say a mom who's all drugged out and no way to care for her child (I am not saying this is the case for the mom of 14), and continues to have baby after baby. That mom should not be allowed to have a child.
No, the government should never cross that line. However, there are mechanisims in place for mothers that fall into this category. In most states, once you have had your rights to one child involuntarily terminated, any subsequent children are taken into state custody at birth.
Well, words certainly are pregnant with meaning, but I worry that if I go too far with searching for puns it will take the. . . ehhhh. . . PC out o' me*, if you know what I mean. *:sorry:
She wanted to "escape lonliness"? She wanted to "erase" her dysfunctional childhood as an only child with the closeness these 14 children could bring? Boy, is she a real whack job and so is the friend who donated his sperm to her. In case you haven't read it yet: Octuplets mom speaks out Calif. octuplets mom's veil of secrecy vanishes
Her mother said she's been obsessed w/ having kids since she was a teen. I'm an only child & I'm glad I don't want a lot of kids to fill a void. I don't want any more than 2.
I was reading a book about Eleanor Roosevelt today, and it talked about her kids, and a little boy raised his hand and said "A women on the news had eight babies... all at one time!" And another girl shouts out, "How can she do that?" All I could say was "I... don't... know...' LOL
after watching the news, i would say this lady is brainless. why bother to have more children if she already has six? does she even think how is she going to support all of them? if she is going to ask the public for assistance, i know i'm not going to support her or her children. she should know beforehand that she can support her family, but i doubt. and why would a single lady want to have that many children?
She'll most likely be ending up on welfare and us taxpayers will just have to foot her bill in the long-run. If she does have money from a settlement and what not then she better invest wisely in it.
i send big prayers for her older siblings. and what does it say about the mom's family when her father (grandpa) wants to go to IRAQ instead of staying home???!!! a war torn country is 'safer'??? Deliver us from...evil? That was my try at the pun  he may be the smartest of the bunch...you are so right Irish Dave
Looks like the INF clinic she went to was right here in the United States. Boy, I sure hope they shut that clinic down and pull the doctor's medical licenses for medical malpractice.
In an ideal world, yes, but most likely had the doctor not have performed the procedure, the mother probably would have sued and it would have been a big ugly court case in which she may have won because in this country women do have the right to choose what we do and don't do with our bodies. Though I would never want someone to dictate to me choices about MY body, I feel like there should be some exceptions, such as with this insane mother of, 14. UGH
Yeah, I heard the procedure was done in CA. And I also heard that the lady wants to go back to school...uhhh, now's the wrong time for that w/ 14 kids on your hands?! Her dad's got the right idea going back to Iraq away from that madness!
The invesitgation is by the california medical board for violations of medical ethics/standard of care issues. The issue they are looking at isn't that the doctors assisted this woman in having 14 kids, but that he grossly violated established standards of care in implanting 6 embryos in a 33yo woman who had had multiple succussful IVF's in the past. The standard of care guidelines state that no more than one to two embryos should be implanted in a woman under 35 unless the woman had had multiple IVF attempts end in failure. Only then should they implant more, but even then, no more than 3. This is done NOT to limit the number of children a woman has, but to limit the risk of multiple and extreme multiple pregnancies, which greatly increases the risk of a poor outcome for both the mother and the babies.
There was also a brief discussion on the Today show this morning that in her interview with Anne Curry she said she wasnt getting Govt support, but now there is evid that she and her older kids DO get support. How are the current hospital bills being taken care of?
The other thing that really bugs me about this, is if you watched her interview with Ann Curry, the woman has obviously had multiple plastic surgeries - she has had at minimum a nose job and lip injections. I wonder how she managed to pay for that as well?
For inquiring mind, pictures of the inside of their home: http://www.radaronline.com/photos/2009/02/nadya_suleman_octuplet_mom.php
They say it takes her 6 hours a day to hold each baby 45 minutes. I wonder how long it takes her to change each baby's diaper and feed each baby. And what about her other kids? Aren't they being neglected? Just how much sleep is this lady getting? Who's helping her, if any, with all these kids?!?!?
Well, one of the captions in the pictures said that her mom pays all the bills. So she must be using that government support that she's NOT getting for the surgeries.
I have been avoiding this thread but all I have to say about it is....what the heck was she thinking???!!! I mean 14 kids and you are not Bill Gates' wife? Come on lady...wake up and get personal healing before going off and being selfish by having so many children to be left to suffer at our expense. Honestly, this is carelessness. Look at her home. NOt like its neat and organized, its filthy and small. And does she believe that she will rely on her mother forever to pay the bills? PS. what was the doctor thinking?
"Her publicist said she will collect 500 dollars in food stamps." Oh, where to begin? PUBLICIST??? impressive. Did this employee come along before or after the kiddos? But she is trying to stay out of the limelight huh? HA!
