They said her parents today filed for bankruptcy last year. Her mother also said she will not be there to help her daughter b/c the 6 children were enough.

    I agree
    BUT
isn't that letting the government into our homes and bedrooms?

I have no problem with people having 14 children. But to keep getting the eggs implanted just because...

And Dave, IF, and I said if, she is getting help from the government to support the 14 children in any form, didn't she already let the government into her home? And if we are going to support people that continue to have children that they can't support, shouldn't the government be allowed to have a say in your child birthing process?

    oh I agree
i just don't want the government to get a toe hold in the bedroom
before long they will say how and how much we can make "whoopee"
maybe I read "1984" too much.

i have always thought it interesting that you have to have a license to drive a car...cut hair...etc...but anyone can have kids

and personally...i thought having 5 cats made me a crazy woman! Although one just ran away recently and we are down to 4

yesterday i was watching something on TLC about polygamist families and my 6 yr old wandered in and watched for a moment...he said, "ya know...i am glad i dont have all those brothers and sisters...you and daddy are enough trouble"

    LOL!

Was that the show about the man with 3 wifes? Am I the only one that thinks that these women are nuts for putting up with him? I bet he would change his story if one of them brought home a man and wanted a second husband.

Honestly, I think this woman should be forced to give up some of or all of her children for better homes. After all, she can't possibly care for 14 kids in a small, 3 bedroom house all by herself. It's obviously clear she's not going to be marrying nor are her aprents staying around in light of this "circus". We make people give up so many or all of their cats and dogs for better homes because the current owner can't keep all those cats or dogs so why can't we make her do the same?

    I could use 3 wives
    one to cook,
one to clean the house and
one to take care of the kids

It was reported today that she is asking for $2 million for interviews to help pay expenses. She also would like to be an on-air childcare expert on one of these talk shows or news shows.

How does she qualify to be a child care expert? Having 14 kids does not make an expert, time and experience is needed not just the paper work. Since it has become a circus, God forbid, who would take her advice?

    Hello!!!
Did you notice there are NO shows like that???
A man with multiple wives is a polygamist, but you know what they'd call a woman with several husbands, right???

    No way!

I did read that she's being deluged with offers for book deals, TV shows and other business proposals, but has not decided what she might do other than care for her children. That was according to her her newly hired spokeswoman.

    Ditto.

    I often wonder that too.

The latest news I heard this morning:

The lady's a college grad & either her OR her mother has a bachelor's degree in...child development!

Well that shows how much they learned! (Not that anyone needs a degree to know that 14 kids is way too many).

Also, the way she had the $ to do this IVF is by winning some kind of settlement yrs ago.

I really hope companies decide not to endorse this woman. It will set a terrible precident. It's one thing if you have multiple births on the first go, but this situation is so sad, and could be very tempting for a lot of crazy women. I would not respect any company that used her for publicity.

I agree Jem. She's nobody's role model & this behavior should definitely NOT be glorified. The last thing we want for teen gals & women in general to think is that they can get quick fame & fortune by having multiple babies. It's just sickening & disgraceful!

You just know she'll have book deals and movie deals and what not solidified in the end. Heck, she may even end up in rag sheets or other entertaining forms of reading pleasure because these companies know there are people out there that'll want to hear her story. It makes for good reading/viewing to many and makes for good money for the companies to capitalize of her.

Just today, I heard some teachers talking about this whole situation & then the topic briefly turned to the Jon & Kate + 8 TV show. They're just a regular family too, but because they have something out of the ordinary...8 kids, they get a TV show about them doing ordinary things that everyone else does. I watched that show a couple of times long ago & frankly don't care to watch their daily hectic life. It's tiring just watching them. Having their show is enough, we don't need another show about someone w/ a lot of kids.

My ex wife complained about the seat up so I started putting not just the "ring" but the lid down too after she had a couple of accidents she stopped complaining and she started to CHECK the toilet before "landing"
I always checked for the "ring" being down if it was, I put it up, if I can put it up, then she can put it down.

to make it an issue is stupid:whistle:

I was flipping through the channels a little while ago and came across that show and let me tell you — BORING!

Honestly, I could care less how some regular family who has something out of the ordinary lives from day to day. I could care less about their struggles and problems. I have my own for God's sakes!

8 kids out of the ordinary?! That's a laugh. I've taught in communities where 8 kids is practically a norm! And these are people who generally discourage fertility enhancement.

God, this world is crazy... I just want a baby... even one would be wonderful... I'd care for it well, I just know I could, yet this unstable-sounding person gets FOURTEEN while I'm still waiting... it stings. :(

i still live at home with my parents and can't even fathom having ONE baby when i'm not yet at the point that i can live on my own and take care of myself and this chick goes out and has 14?! that is unfair to her parents.

she really should have gotten her tubes tied after the 6

Well, for some reason, a lot of people must have thought 8 kids is unique, otherwise do you think they'd have an entire show revolving around them? And I'm sure in certain states, many people have a lot of kids because there's nothing better to do.
Now no one get offended here, but some people have this stereotype that many people from the hick, country parts of the country just pop out babies & that's all they do. They know they'll work on a farm all their lives, so they usually have no aspirations.

I agree. I live at home too & my parents are older than the parents of most people my age. I'd never put that burden on my parents nor myself by getting pregnant AT ALL.

Dave -- I was talking about this Jon & Kate show. Did they have all 8 at once? (I have no clue, I only know about them from this thread...)

Ms I -- The community that I taught in had many children as a religious value. They view it as a sacred mission to bring [God-fearing] children into the world, and from what I saw they take it very seriously and do an admirable job. Not every family will be successful at this, but most of the ones I know are very functional. 8 doesn't even seem like so many when they're spread out! I know that's hard to imagine if you've never seen it...

LOL! I come from a family of seven children and my husband a family of nine. When I grew up (I'm ancient ;) ) it was very common to have such large families. I had several friends who had 10-13 siblings.
I can't imagine it today though. And all at once!!! :eek:hmy:
