List all the jobs you had BEFORE becoming a teacher. Are you working another job WHILE teaching?

Keep in mind I was in college during the time I was at ALL these jobs. In order from 1st through present:

    - Carl's Jr. (For 1 1/2 yrs starting the summer I graduated HS)
    - Nordstrom (shoe dept)
    - clerical job
    - Robinson's May (lingerie dept)
    - Guess store
    - Citibank (almost 8 yrs) - (DID THIS, SUBBING, SCHOOL)
    - Substitute teacher (since 1999) - (DID THIS, CITIBANK, SCHOOL)
    - Internet business (3 yrs)

Short-term jobs throughout the yrs were film/TV show extra, telemarketing, movie theatre, other retail.

Became Resource Specialist in 2006 (finally out of school), but only taught for a yr & have returned back to subbing.

Started work at home business in early 2008.

CURRENTLY, starting school again (towards 2nd Masters) & subbing.

    *Kumon
    *24 Hour Fitness
    *Receptionist job
*Library Assistant (current job, along with subbing)

In between the gym and receptionist job I briefly worked for a yearbook photography company, the job conditions and people were HORRIBLE. I quit after a month, and realized why they offered that $1,000 incentive if you stayed until the new year (3 months).

    I've worrked since I was 13.

I coached gymnastics until I was 18 all year, after that I coached until I was 22.
Then in the summers I worked for the City Summer Programs (I did that for six years).

And that's it - then I started subbing. I've always been very "kid" focused.

1999-2007- Kroger- I was a bagger for 3 months, cashier for 18 months and an Assistant Customer Service Manager/accountant for the other 6+ years. I was FT from 2001-2007.
2000-2001 4/5 year old "teacher" at a day care- this was a high school co-op position. I remained working at Kroger on the weekends.
2006-2007 Substitute teacher (and still at Kroger!)

I currently have a 2nd job as well. I am a receptionist at a Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge dealership. It is the BEST job in the world! Hours are 5-9 weekdays (and I also work Saturdays). I answer the phones, make coffee and ring up down payments. This gives me plenty of time to grade papers, cut things out, plan, etc... I love it! I am honestly a better teacher because of this job! And, I work with all guys there (literally- there are 4 other women- 2 who work M-F 9-5 and 2 other receptionists). I have always gotten along better with guys than girls and working with all girls drives me nuts at school! I always feel like I am in high school again

Arby's (8 1/2 years) Started in HS (on my 16th birthday) and worked throughout college and a while longer until I was hired as a full time teacher.
Franklin Electric (3 summers) Started the summer after high school graduation. Good money, which helped me pay for college.
DaySpring Cards (3 summers) Started after FE stopped employing college students during the summer. Also helped pay for college.
House sitting (throughout college) Did this for professors while they were away. Have done up to 3 houses at the same time. Since I was from and lived in the same town that I went to college, it was easier for some of them to trust me.

Jobs for College: Financial Aid jobs
Cafeteria clean-up This was my first semester at college. They ended up having too many of us, so they let some of us go.
Nursery I started this my 2nd semester of college and continued through the next year. This was watching children during our Chapel time. I had lots of fun, was able to listen to Chapel over the speakers, and got Chapel credit.
Music Librarian Started this during my 2nd year of college and continued for 3 more years after. I was in charge of organizing the music library, creating a computer log-in/check-out system for the music, buying new music for the Instrumental groups, and arranging music for individual instruments. I really enjoyed this job since I have a large background in music.

Subbing (1 semester) For the district I'm with now. Subbed and was hired for the next year. This is the same district I went to school in and did my internship in.

Once I graduated high school I worked at least 2 jobs at a time. During the school year it was Arby's and whichever school job I had. During the summer it was Arby's and whichever factory job I had. I did have to take out a few loans my last 2 years of college, but I had them paid off before I graduated.

High school jobs: Sylvan Learning Center (aide) and Chuck E Cheese. I was hired at Sylvan first, for 2 days a week after school, but needed more hours so took on CEC too.
College: worked for the university fund, calling parents and alumni to solicit donations (worst job EVER, lol). Then I got a job doing desktop publishing for Kinko's. Most stores didn't do their computer services orders in the store, they faxed/emailed orders to a central office where we knocked out the orders and emailed them back to the stores to be printed. I started off as a proofreader, learned desktop publishing, and wound up supervising the weekend workload. I thought I'd get into editing or do desktop publishing as a career, and designed my own major through the English dept in writing and editing.

Then I moved out of state and became a stay-at-home-mom and Army wife, then volunteered in my kids' classrooms, and then moved back here to CA where I got a job as an aide at the school I'm at now, which quickly morphed into a teaching position, and now I am almost through with my credential and will be moving to a public school (hopefully, lol) at some point after that.

I started my first job the summer right before my freshman year of highschool a Giant Eagle, grocery store. Summer 2002 started working at a lil local gift shop that was pet oriented (before the freakish pet sweater craze started! Her shop was candles, books, throws and other random things) While here I started college and was babysitting for 3 boys. Somehow for about 4 monthes I was working those two jobs and got hired at Babies R' Us for the next 5 years through college. And was still working there a month into getting my first teaching job last fall!

I joined the Air Force when I was 19 and got out when I was 24. After that, I was mainly in the Air Force reserves and going to school.

My Air Force job was called a "loadmaster." I was part of the flight crew on transport (and briefly) search and rescue planes. Basically my job was to take care of anything and everything aft of the flight deck - cargo loading, unloading, airdrop, passengers etc. I did this on C-141 Starlifters and HC-130's aircraft.

For six years, I had terminal jet-lag. One week I'd be Germany, next week I'd be in the Philippines. In between, I might have made a trip or two to Alaska or Southern California. The downside was that even though I've been to Egypt and Singapore dozens of times, it's never been for longer than two hours.

Here's a C-141 being loaded. My job was to basically stand on the back of the plane and make sure nothing got broken or nobody got hurt. I also had to open and close those big huge doors.

Here's the inside of the plane. I basically lived here for about 15 days a month for six years. There were weeks where the majority of my sleep would be on those seats.

Here's an HC-130 air-refueling helicopters. My job was to stand in the back window and make sure the helicopter didn't hit the airplane and tell the pilot if it was about to.

1997-2001--I would babysit a little and worked as an assistant in the nursery at church during the summers.
    2001-2002--When I turned 16 I got a job as a cashier at a grocery store
2002-2007--Was in charge of the nursery at church for one mass a week
2002-2008 (last month)--Worked in the produce department of the same grocery store. My manager was very good about scheduling me the hours that I wanted and I really do miss working there, but at the same time there were many things about working there that drove me nuts!
2007-2008--Was a graduate assistant at the education department at my college doing academic advisement for undergraduate students.
And then I just recently started my job teaching middle school math a couple of weeks ago.

Other than babysitting, I didn't work in high school. I wasn't planning on working after high school until my Dad phoned me a week after I graduated and told me that he got me a job. I worked at a plastic factory for the summer (I put handles on ice cream buckets and put labels on milk crates). I worked the day shift with all of the grandmas b/c my Dad didn't want to work with all of the workers my age during the night shift.

I then worked for about 1.5 year at a store (similar to Walmart) as a cashier and in the cash office during college. I also worked for a summer day camp for one summer. After graduating, I worked as a day care worker and a day care assistant supervisor for about 2 years. I was also a special needs assistant for about 4 years while taking night classes before I accepted a teaching job.

I can be accused of being the spoiled little rich girl. My parents would never have allowed me to work (except babysitting during the summer) in HS, even if I wasn't at a boarding school. I did work in college and grad school because I didn't want to be completely dependent on them, so I don't have that long of a list:

-Waitress at a restaraunt I prefer not to name
-Receptionist at a car dealership...I sucked at it. I once answered a phone call "Good morning, thank you for calling <dealership name>, how may I disconnect your call?"
-Sales, then manager at an upscale department store (children's dept).

Yep, my parents didn't care that I didn't work in HS either. My 1st job was at 18 right after I graduated. They just bought me what I needed including a new car right off the showroom floor at the beginning of my 2nd semester of my senior year. I was one of the few kids who had a new car, so I was riding high then! Ah, the memories! :D

I have had SO many jobs! My story is kind of strange b/c I finished HS at 16, then went to community college but was pretty aimless for about 4 years. When I finally decided to finish college, I moved away and finished in 5 quarters. So during my putzing around years, I had A LOT OF JOBS!

    H.S. Jobs
First job- after school center worker at the community center
Then, pizza maker at a cafe, became a sous chef (sp?)

After HS while I putzed around in community college for a few years:
Aid at a Montessori school (3 years)
During that time I also worked at:
    - Mervyn's over X-mas break
    - a watch stand in the mall (x-mas break)
    - sold Kirby Vacuums for a week (never sold one)
    - I was a live in nanny for 6 months, then again for 6 weeks but was fired
    - I nannied for about 4 families (live out)
    - I worked in the Alzheimer's wing of a nursing home
    - I did home health care
    - I worked at La Petit Academy (A chain like Kinder Care)

Then when I transfered to the University, I:

    - House sat for some rich people and drove their kids around one summer
    - Nannied for the "wretched" children (They were TERRORS)
    - Then spent a year taking care of a girl with Down's Syndrome as a care giver/mentor... this was my favorite job!!

After getting my BA I worked as a temp for a summer and did file clerking! (Fun!)

Then for 3 years I worked at a hospital answering service. I did this for a year, then started grad school and had this job until graduation.

    Now I'm a teacher!

During school - taught Sunday School
I finished high school at 16, so in my final year I worked as an afterschool nanny.
Part-time TA and part-time nanny for a year.
Then I nannied whilst I decided what to study (nursing or teaching), then nannied full-time(45+hrs /week) whilst studying full-time for my BEd degree.
Then moved onto a facilitator/homeschool position for a child with special needs
Now working as a TA whilst looking for a full-time teaching position and start an afterschool nanny position in Sept, which depending on hours, I will probably keep when I get a teaching post.

I LOVED my nanny jobs. I couldn't work as a waitress lol!
