I get the 20th through the 8th off...20 days off in a row. It will be a heck of a lot better than my TG break due to having NO grad classes either!!! - Spend time w/ parents - Seeing The Lion King musical for the 3rd time. It's one of the 4 live performances I'll be seeing lately. Also seeing A Christmas Carol, Rhythmic Circus (tap dancing & more), & I Love Lucy Live. - Shopping - 1 or 2 day trips, if not a little trip - Working my other fun job - Going to movies a few times - Working out at gym - Magic Mountain - Hopefully having a gal's day w/ a friend
We get out early ont he 20th and go back the 6th. I'll be: ~getting my shopping done ~having Christmas at 3 different places sometime over the break ~getting back into the gym ~going through closets and getting rid of stuff that is not needed anymore ~catching up on TV shows and going to see some movies
We'll travel to visit my husband's family and my families. We'll also catch a Saints game. Other than that, I'm sure we'll relax and do our usual things we do: catch up on the DVR, board games, etc.
We get out early on Dec 20th, and go back for a work day on Jan 6. My only plans as of right now are shopping and spending time with my kids. The one that lives in Michigan is coming for his winter break. The other three live with me or close enough to drive so I am sure at one point all 4 will be home and that is such a great feeling to have my entire family under one roof, even if it's for only an hour or two or a day or two. Even if they do bring their clothes from college. Other than that I'm going to vegetate, and dictate chores!!!!
We are off on the 20th (unfortunately, unpaid) which works out well as that's the day Lauren needs to be picked up. I have no plans for the break other than lots of reading, relaxing and enjoying my kids being home (or, more accurately, using our house as a "home-base" over the holidays).
We are also off from the 20th to the 6th. We usually spend lots of that time at Disney or Universal, which is tremendously relaxing after the hectic days at school. We skype on Christmas with family members from out of town. I also watch the Harry Potter movies every Christmas break. Just being home is enough.
Our last day is December 20, and we go back on January 6th. We will be preparing and delivering between 500-600 Christmas meals on December 23rd. Our church does that. I will cook, assemble meals, and then help with deliveries. I go to Mom's house on Christmas Eve. I'll likely be home on Christmas Day. I might take my tree down. If not, definitely the next day. Some of us are doing out on New Year's Eve to hear some music. I'm sure I'll go shopping at least once, and I might go to the movies. I had thought about scheduling a surgery, but I am waiting until January due to insurance. My current plan doesn't have a deductible, and my new one does. I'd rather pay toward my deductible next year than just pay now.
Our last day is the 20th; we return on the 6th. I'm planning to spend the time enjoying my family. Christmas Eve morning we'll deliver trays of candies to the local firehouse, police station and the rectory as a thank you. Then it's 4 pm mass, then off to my sister's... 34 (I think) of us, all immediate family. It's hectic and crazy and my favorite night of the year. Mom will sleep over my house. Christmas Day is much more low key-- opening presents and enjoying them and each other. I'll make a big dinner... I'm thinking of a ham. Then, after we drive mom home, it's across the street for coffee and desserts (and still more presents) at our friend's house. New Years Eve is across the street (different neighbor). We have appetizers, champagne, and bang pots and pans when the ball drops. I'm considering a New Years Day open house; we'll see. Beyond that, it's whatever comes up. Lots of time with family and friends.
We also get out on the 20th and go back the 6th. I'll be: Spending time with my kiddo, sleeping in, coloring together, playing trucks and making pancakes together, trying to get his sleep schedule back on track. Yup, still working on that. :| Vegging out in front of the TV. Cleaning and organizing the house Getting back in the habit of exercising and eating better (I'm serious this time). Spending time with my niece
Wow, Alice. That is awesome of you guys. It's things like this I am excited to do with my little one...maybe we'll start this year.
Focusing on why, not what, im doing: Family and friends Reading, relaxing, reflecting, rejuvenating Enjoying quiet moments Cuddling and snuggling finding peace...in mind and surroundings I wish you all the love, joy and peace of the season
Our Christmas season will be 2 weeks, 2 months .... or whatever we want it to be. Really looking forward to it...... When Xmas season is over it will be "Summer Season" ...... and I look forward to that also. Make the most out of everyday you have..... Don't waste a single day, OK .......
My last day is the 20th , but I go back Jan. 2. I will have my boys home, plus a visit from one GF for at least a few days. DH will be home more. I'm looking forward to cooking and spending some quality time with the family. Hoping for a brief visit to D.C. Too. All the best to you all and I hope all you anticipate comes true.
My fiance and I have the same break (the 21st to the 6th). We are doing the same thing we did at Thanksgiving (making the long drive to spend time with both our families), but thankfully it'll be stretched out a little bit more so it won't be so exhausting! Plus, we'll have lots of quality time to relax, play games, read in front of the fire, etc. Since my fiance is going to be a pastor, this will more than likely be the last time I will be able to actually spend Christmas with my extended family. So, I will be soaking up every minute of it!
We have a similar break (21st thru 5th), though my wife is in management at a retail store, so she'll only have 3-5 of those days off outside of Christmas. One thing I'll definitely be doing is some extensive long-term planning, as I just took over the classroom today and will likely be going to near the end of the year. However, I'm sure I'll be doing a mix of cleaning, veg-ing, spending some time with family, and hopefully a few date nights This is the first time in about 16 months that I'll have more than 2-3 days off in a row (and really, the only time in the last 3 1/2 years was the week before and week after my wedding!)...so I'm definitely excited!
My students told me yesterday that there was "no way" I could be looking forward to the break as much as they are. If only they knew !
We've done it every year since 9/11, and I really look forward to it. I think this calls for a new thread.
Well, I know my students' parents are dreading the break LOL I think the way the holidays fall this year most of us are getting a 2 week break. I can't wait to read, work on some crafts, declutter a bit, and just relax. I do have to do some schoolwork but at least I can do it in the comfort of my jammies!
I'm trying to remember, in years' past, did we always have that one more Mon off after the 2 wk break or is that something new? If so, what was the reason for that 3rd Mon in a row off? I postponed the jury duty I may have had to go to 2 days before Christmas, which has never been the time of year I normally do JD. I'm not doing that kind of thing on my vacation!
Could it just be recent memory? - the last 3-4 New Years have happened Saturday through Wednesday, which causes there to either be a holiday right before the 1st Monday, or immediately after, causing that to end up being a day off because it's so soon after, or it being late in January (5th, 6th, 7th), making it seem later than usual.
Ms I, it's a function of what day Christmas happens to fall. It seldom makes sense to open a school for one day before a weekend. So if Christmas (And therefore New Years, a week later) falls on a Thursday, the schools will generally give you Friday the 2nd off-- it's simply not worth it to heat a school for a single day after having been cold for over a week. But if Christmas and New Years are, say, on a Monday, the schools will generally open on the 2nd (or in our case, the 3rd-- they always give us the extra day.) My kids, on the other hand, go back on the 3rd-- Thursday of that week. So, as a consolation prize to them, I told them that they don't have to help us de-decorate.
The 20th is my last day, too. I go back on the 6th and the kids come back on the 8th. I LOVE that we have those two days to get things back in order and ready. Our six weeks ends on the 20th, so before we leave, all grades have to be in. I also love that, no grading over the break. I have a couple of professional texts that I will be reading, also some reading for fun. I'll spend time with family and friends, and just be me for a while.
Three hours of proctoring... But I had 2 kids absent for yesterday's test, so I'll be in for an hour or so on Monday proctoring the makeup. The pull the proctoring list from the group of teachers who would have to be in anyway to grade the makeup, so if you had no one absent, you're off. Not this year. But I'm pretty well set for Christmas... aside from food shopping, which I plan to knock off this weekend. So it won't kill me. ETA: Possible change of plans. I just got a call from mom. My aunt is in hospice, and it doesn't look as through she'll make it through the night. I'll let them know at school that proctoring Monday may be iffy, though I'll have to get back to grade the makeups sometime Monday.
I'm sorry to hear about your aunt, Alice. I have one more (CRAZY) day--it's pretty much filled with chapel, Christmas program practice, school geography bee and sing-along, and then class parties. I'll be running around all day, as I am in charge of leading several of those things. And then, it's home to wait for my fiance to get into town!!!!
Early dismissal tomorrow, and possible snow starting early morning (5-6am)...should be interesting to see if tomorrow stands...
We seem to just let life unfold and enjoy what happens. I know we will have 2 Christmas events, and 2 dinners. I have several turkeys in my freezer that I got free from Fred Meyer. My GS wants to cook dinner again--so I will simply supervise. My other DD, SIL, GD, GS and 2 GGS will come up for the week end. Chaos will dominate our house. I am telling myself that this sounds like fun. Oh, yes, it is supposed to snow tonight.
Ms I, I just hit the Disney site and found this : Knott's Berry Farm Theme Park Canned Food Drive 01/06/14 - 01/31/14 Donate two or more canned food products and receive a one day admission ticket for only $31.00! The collected food will be used by the Orange County Food Bank to help meet the needs of Southern California families. I've never been there, but I thought of you.
Alice, I appreciate it! I took advantage of the donating a toy IN PLACE OF paying at all for a ticket to Knott's one holiday before & it was so incredibly crowded, you couldn't even enjoy yourself. You're walking in small steps due to so many people. This Christmas break, I'm probably going to Magic Mountain since my annual pass expires 12/31 & I want to get 1 more visit in!
