Do you form any habits that only come out at the end of the school year? Right now it's almost 1:30 AM, I have to grade 30 Algebra quizzes, 90 AP Calc AB practice tests, and 20 AP Calc BC practice tests. I'm shoveling chili cheese fries from Wendy's in my mouth because I had absolutely no time to stop for dinner tonight. I was in school from 7 - 3, classes from 4 - 6, and then rehearsal from 7 - 11:30. I never eat fast food .
 That's the end of every quarter for me! No matter how hard I try to arrange it, there's always SOMETHING at work that comes up to overtake my life. But yes, the end of the year... testing galore, and we finally do the fun stuff for our kids - carnivals, Field Day, assemblies out the wazoo... the next month is going to be extremely busy and insane!
Final exams are crazy because I have to constantly be grading. If I have that much to grade for normal exams, I usually can't get it all back the next day. That's just too much!!
End of the year is nuts. I had to finish with my student teacher yesterday so that was added evals, etc., and now I have to stay on top of my plans to the last millisecond for the rest of the year or I won't finish where I want to. Let's see - the last month of school will bring me 35 weekly prompts for honors x 4 weeks, plus 35 Gatsby Essays and 35 Anthem essays, 35 final exam essays and 35 independent project essays. Plus 100 Academic essays for Titus plus maybe 2 shorter writing prompts. That's 580 essays of varying lengths to grade by the end of the year. Woohoo.
Generally, the teachers get more focused on covering enough material, squeezing in that extra new unit, prepping for that test, etc. The students get less focused: seniors mostly accepted into college, unproductively content; underclassmen with visions of summer dancing in their heads. I try to have a sense of humor about it, even as I work to shove my little flocks forward. It's all part of the rhythm of a school year. I try to enjoy it all.
The clock gets louder and louder and faster and faster. Every. Single. Day. My bag home gets heavier and heavier. My motivation is getting smaller and smaller. Meanwhile, the laundry basket is getting higher and higher. 20 days. 4 more Mondays. Field days, field trips, parties, awards, testing, paperwork, more paperwork, and of course meetings. Ack! But I love it all! Lol!
That's some serious snacking going on late at night. I stoppped eating vegetables on purpose since I started this school year with the same time I started taking grad school classes, compiled with the hardest class I've EVER encountered as a teacher. 3 weeks left of school here.
April's officially over for me (since I don't go to work tomorrow (Mon), but that was THE MOST hectic month of the entire school year. My only habit is having to scramble more, doing more work to fit everything in. After the first week of May is over, it will die down & pretty much be smooth sailing until my last day on May 24th!
I used to work at Wendy's in my teenage years so I know what's in that chili.........haha it's actually not that bad. Just leftover old, burned hamburger meat that's been boiled down!!!
