Let's see how many responses I can get.

I knew I was a grown up when I got rid of all of my jeans and sneakers, and kept only 1 pair of each.

I knew I was a grown up when sleeping late means sleeping until 8:30 am

I also knew I was a grown up when, instead of spending my whole paycheck on clothes and going out, I had to spend it on my school loans.

I'm 22 by the way

I guess at 21. (Not because of drinking, I've never drank anyway!) That seemed to be the age when every year from then on seemed to wiz by in the blink of an eye. I'm still pretty young now, but I want my 20s back! :)

Other than that, I guess when I graduated w/ my undergrad degree & got a job as a sub, which was the 1st better job I could get w/o having to work at the clothing stores, etc....you, know the kind of jobs you had in college!

I knew I was a grown up when when the Priest said "do you David take this woman....."

I knew I was a grown up when I had to pay taxes instead of getting an auto-refund

I knew I was a grown up when I was sent to the store to buy "monthly" supplies for the wife.

I knew I was a grown up when I had to pay my own traffic ticket

I knew I was a grown up when the doctor said "Congratulations Dave you have a boy"(now get off the floor)

I knew I was a grown up the first time I wrote a check for the rent.

I knew I was a grown up when I realized that groceries were more important than going out with my friends.

I knew I was a grown up when I had to take the car in for repairs....and then pay for said repairs.

I knew I was a grown up when partying all night, then going to work was too much trouble.

I knew I was a grown up when I realized I needed more than 4 hours of sleep.

I knew I was a grown up when they stopped carding me for spray paint, WD40, and other similiar items.

I knew I was a grown up when my son was a baby and I heard a noise in the middle of the night and I was the only one there to check it out.

I'm 44 and have felt grown up for quite a while...but now I feel REALLY grown up because I'm starting to worry about my parents--the role reversal is starting!

when I moved across the country and couldn't just call my dad to fix my car.
When i had to buy new tires on my own.
When i got my first apartment - alone (though i wasnt alone too long, it was still MY apartment)
when i had a bill in my name that wasnt a student loan.

every weekend when i have to do chores instead of sitting on the couch and playing video games with boyfriend. (those are the weekends we pretend to be adults)

You know you are an adult when...
You have to go "home" to take care of your parents!
You have to pay all of your bills.
You have to learn to fix things in your house without your dad!
You can eat whatever you want and don't have to listen to-is that all you are going to eat, etc... (even when it is only ice cream for supper!! :) )

I knew I was a grown-up when I started to wonder what happened to music videos on MTV! And when I didn't watch the Real World, and didn't even feel bad about it!

    I knew I was a grown-up when...

I had to figure out all of my own bills.
sleeping was more important than partying.
I realized other people, friends and family, really count on me.

    Although I know I'm a grown-up I'm still so young and a child at heart :)

One morning I was leaving Starbucks with my coffee in one hand, all dressed up in slacks and pumps with my car keys in my hand to drive to work. I realized, wow, this is what grown ups do.

when you feel really bad about asking your parents for money.
when you are responsible for cleaning your own house.
when you have to get new car tags.

I knew I was a grown up when I moved across the country to be with my husband...

    I knew I was a grown up when I said " I do..."

I knew I was a grown up when I was holding my newborn daughter for the first time....and the second daughter the first time :0)

I knew I was a grown up the first time I walked into a bare classroom and saw all the possibilities...

I knew I was a grown up when my daughters trusted me to make them all better....

I knew I was a grown up the first time I wrote a check for house taxes...that came out of my check!

I knew I was a grown up when...

    ...

    ...

    ...

    ugh...

    ...

I'll let you know when I decide to grow up - if I ever do!:D

I think "grown up" is a state of mind. I'm 27 and I know I'm an adult, but I'm just a big goofy kid and I have no intention of changing that (but I can pretend to be a mature and responsible adult when I need to be).

I knew I was grown up when the blue line appeared on the pregnancy test...
I knew I was grown up when I had my first apartment
I knew I was grown up when I started realizing that I had to worry about my credit
I knew I was grown up when I realized that I could decide what car I could buy

    When I got married
When I bought a house without my parents signing
When I bought a car without my parents signing
    When my son was born
When I started going to bed at 9 on Fridays and 10 on Saturdays
When sleeping in meant til 7 a.m.
When I got irritated with friends and family for still sleeping in (past 7)
When parents were asking me for advice about their kids and taking me seriously

When I was picking out a coffin for my husband, I turned to my mother and said, "I guess this means I'm a grown up now." I'd felt grown before that (I was 36 at the time) but that's not supposed to happen to someone until waayyyy past retirement so that was my "I know I'm no longer young" moment.

I knew I was grown up when I called my mom about something and she asked me "Are you asking me for permission or just letting me know, because you're old enough to make your own decisions now." Thanks, Mom....

Oh, Teacherintexas, I'm so sorry. I hope you still have days when you feel young at heart.

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
    And climb on every rung
    May you stay forever young
    Forever young, forever young
    May you stay forever young.

I sang "Forever Young" to my grand daughter at her baptism.
Now I have sung at weddings but this was the hardest for me.
When I finished I was crying and my son the mocho Navy Ordinance man was crying.
Again another time I knew I was grown up

So true..the best gifts we can give our children are roots to plant their feet and wings to fly...

I knew I was grown-up when I sprawled out on my own couch in my own home and realized that noone could say to me "get your feet off the couch!!":)

I knew I had grown up when I moved out of my house and in with my boyfriend and somehow survived my first 6 months of living on my own.

I knew I had grown up when I was talking about getting engaged and married with my boyfriend and meant it.

I knew I had grown up when I realized I can't party like my friends because then I wouldn't be able to pay my bills every month.

You know you're finally grown-up when YOU'RE the one calling the police on rowdy neighborhood teenagers.

You know you're finally grown-up when you frequently throw disapproving looks at children misbehaving in a store.

You know you're finally grown-up when you have a mortgage.

You know you're finally grown-up when you tell your friends that you can't be out later 9 p.m.

You know you're finally grown-up when you feel completely out of place at clubs/bars.

And you start singing along and dancing to it!

I was in the grocery store one day and ran into this man who was also singing along to the song and we had a good laugh.

I realized my youth was gone the first time ...

    I fell asleep at 7 p.m.
I coiled at the sight of how teens dress
Woke up in the middle of the night worrying about money
Made plans for my son in case I should die before he's grown
Painted my house (or any other fix-it house job)
Gave advice to a college student
Had a student visit me after she/he was grown
Cried because someone lost their life at a young age

When I moved to a different state on my own.

When I got my own apartment ... and paid the monthly rent all by myself.

When I earned my masters degree.

When I started paying back the student loans on said masters degree.

When I walked into my first classroom with MY name on the door!

    I knew I was a grown-up when..

I had to give my husband an IV every 4 hours, remembering to do it was a task.

I also knew because I moved out and I had to pay bills

    I knew when I graduated from H.S

I knew when I got married

I am an adult, but a child at heart for ever and ever

I knew I was an adult when...

    I announced my engagement.
    I got married.
Moved into my husbands house - finally could stay the night!!
I had to wait for the washer repair man.
I spend my weekend mornings cleaning.
I cook dinner and grocery shop for the week.
I'm not sure whatelse...I'd like to pretend that I am still a young single crazy girl who can go out and hit the club scene. Not that that was ever really my scene anyway...
