Anyone do yoga with your class after lunch? I am thinking about fitting this into my schedule for 10 minutes or so.

I do some poses with my kids. Last year we did it after lunch most days, just for a few minutes. I'm interested to see if other teachers do it too...

I'm just student teaching now, but this is something that I have always been interested in too. I had already decided that I would try it once I got hired, so I'm glad to see that there are a few others interested too. Please keep us updated on how it goes if you decide to do it.

Miss Kirby, what do your kids think of it?

I'm trying it this year too. I just bought The Yoga Kit for Kids by Imaginazium. It comes with a music cd, cards with photos of kids doing yoga poses, and an instruction booklet. I plan on practicing the poses with the kids and later on having the cards available in the classroom for them to use during the day.

I put it in for 10 minutes...I'll see how it goes. I heard from other teachers it works great after lunch. I have to do some research on "kid" positions. ;)

Just be careful some parents may not like the idea!

Sounds good to me if it helps with concentration and helps them to wind down after recess. secondmp, why don't you think parents would like the idea? Because you are taking away from learning time, or because it's a new-fangled thing? I would think that you could send a note home explaining that 10 minutes of yoga time will help their child be more focused, they would be supportive of it.

Great idea! I included it in todays open house, when I passed out our schedule. The parents thought it was neat! :)

We do it every morning for five minutes. Kids like it, and it helps me to relax and not stress so much before I start teaching.

I would like to do something like this.

How do you get your kids motivated to do this?
I tried introducing a similar idea (Brain Gym -- not so similar, but same purpose -- simple exercises that are supposed to help with calming/concentrating) and met so much resistance from my boys that I had to just back down -- I was losing the class completely! :help:

    It is going well!

The kids look forward coming back after lunch to relax for 10 minutes and re-group.

I tell my kid's that we need full participation for the "relaxation" to kick in and we need SILENCE :)

Some of my boys were hesitant but after seeing their fresh smiles when I flick the lights on gave me an answer that they enjoy it!

They brought in beach towels in the beginning of the year to keep in their cubbies. So I lay them out before they come back to lunch or they lay them out before lunch. Why do I do this? Everyone will then have their own space and not touch each other...that would not be fun!

    Hope I helped a little.

They refuse to listen to the idea. When I show them a move they purposely do it wrong -- but I mean wildly. :( The minute I started to say anything about doing an exercise that will help us, I got instant groans, eyerolling, folded arms, you get the idea.

How did you introduce it the first time?
