so I tried to give myself red highlights using L'Oreal Colour Rays

It chunked together and gave me (NO JOKE) stoplight red hair. Tried to redye with a brown. the unred hair is a very pretty color but the rest is still stoplight red.

:help: any suggestions other than wait till it wears out. I am not opposed to just waiting. I will need to redye before summer is over and work resumes.

Prell shampoo and water as hot as you can stand it. Wash it at least 4 or 5 times and you'll see a difference. If you don't have Prell, or can't find it, use good old fashioned dish detergent. The harsher the soap the better.

Once you're done, super condition it to make up for the stripping your hair will have just gone through.

    That should help.

I've seen color correction solutions at drugstores, right where the hair dye is. I have no idea how they work, but it's worth looking into.

If you're willing to spend the money, you can also go to a salon to have the color issue fixed.

Sorry that happened to you!! I hope everything works out!

Head and Shoulders also works, so my hair dresser tells me. I used a harsh brand of shampoo from the beauty store that I thought was helping my hair. I color every time I go see the stylist. I used the shampoo for a month and went to get my hair colored. My hair was so faded and washed out that she immediately wanted to know what I had been shampooing with. When I told her said made me promise to throw out any I had left. The harsh soap will fade you rather quickly.

Coloring all one color, I can do. When it comes to highlights, I leave it to my hairstylist. But, like you said, since you're off for the summer, you can afford to experiment a little!

got it fixed! Well at least enough to not be in tears when I look at my head. It is now a burgandy brown with the red still showing through.

I think I thought it was worse than it was. The cashier at the local right aid said it looked good and flirted with me.:p

I have a dark brown base with bright red highlights. I just went in today to get it re-done; I always get lots of compliments! I'm sure it looks great!

Glad you got it to where you're happy with it!

Funny-I just made an appointment this morning to get my summer pink highlights put in-can't wait! I picked up a pink glittery bike jersey to match for my next triathlon-I'm going to be Super Jem! ;)

That's why I'm afraid to color my own hair. I go to the salon to have it done.
