I start year 21 tomorrow, and I feel as nervous as a first year teacher. I don't know why! I'm not teaching anything new, I'm in the same room I've been in for 7 years, nothing really different in the building... I've changed my mind about the exact lesson I'm presenting 3 times already. What's my problem? LOL
I don't know, but I had it, too! I'm on year 20, and I had the usual first-day jitters this year. I've been in the same room since 1998, and I've been teaching the same subject/grade since 1996. We started common core last year. I have no idea what had me all worked up. By the middle of the second week I was fine, though.
Starting year 5 tomorrow! This will be my 3rd year at the same school, same room; however, we're full inclusion this year. That's different, but I'm excited about it!
Year 6 for me tomorrow. Back to self contained and Common Core. I usually don't get nervous.... I am lacking my usual excitement though
Starting year 12 but in a new classroom and teaching an entirely new subject...I'm not nervous tonight but I won't be surprised if I'm a basket case tomorrow morning. I forsee a stop at Starbucks to treat myself to a special sweet drink to get me through my first class.
Good luck! I'm starting year 12 tomorrow, and I'm as anxious now as I was my first year. I don't think that feeling ever goes away!
Year 14 here and I'm nervous too. New subject again and I don't feel as prepared as I should. I guess I'll have some long hours these first few weeks. And I believe I'll have a 2nd Mt.Dew tomorrow. Have a great start everyone!
May I suggest NOT doing a bunch of shots like a new 21 year old? Congratulations on the milestone. I'm looking up to you as a fifth year English teacher.
band, I always "see" you as someone closer to my age. Must be that playful panda. Anyhow, wishing everyone a wonderful year! Mine has not started off as I would have hoped, but I am working on thinking positively! This is year seven.
This will be the 12th year for me since returning to work after having my kids. I hope that this is the best year yet for us all!
Well, the first day is over and and went off without a hitch! My kids seem to be really sweet, and we had some good conversations already about vocabulary and spelling and their frustration with never really "getting" it. We learned some new words, wrote a little, read a little... good stuff.
First of all, congrats on 21 years! You are nervous because you want to do the best job possible. Good luck!
