As much as I have loved working with my first graders, I'm thrilled that (today) my P informed me that I will be teaching 3rd grade next year!!!! I'm so excited! Third graders are so much fun!

Congratulations! Third can go either way. They're not as needy as first graders, and you can do chapter books! Yay! But I've been in some third grade rooms where kids just bicker. For some reason, at that age, they all want to assert themselves and often it is at odds with each other. If I taught third, I'd do a lot of work on conflict resolution. What are you looking forward to doing with them?

Congratulations! Although as a new first grade teacher, I will miss reading your first grade wisdom! I have learned a lot from your posts! :) But I'm sure you will be an amazing third grade teacher as well!!

I student taught third, and really enjoyed it. I love that we will be covering "authentic" literature, both fiction & nonfiction. I love that (most of them) are still curious and eager to please. I am looking forward to teaching writing beyond just complete sentences, lol! I will still have some sweeties who will need lots of remediation (i.e., phonics work, etc.) because we do have some low kiddos moving up, but their logic skills and ability to predict is soooo much better! I will also finally have a coworker who will not expect me to do all the work and just hand it to her!
