http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_2/8265477.stm It's taken a bit of time....but they did it eventually bless em !!
YAY!!!!!! I'm a NY Mets fan (American baseball... we don't win nearly as often as our cross-town rivals the Yankees)... I can TOTALLY relate!
Mind you Alice, given the size of New York to Hartlepool...even the Mets are bigger than Hartlepool United ! We are a little town (with a BIG heart) !
I think it takes real heart to be a fan of a team of any size that loses more often than it wins. It's easy to be a fan of those other teams-- the ones who are so used to winning that losing is a bitter shock. But those of us who root for the Mets or the Chicago Cubs or the NY Islanders.. or for Hartlepool... we stick with our teams through all the "lean years", even when they come one after the another in rapid succession. It takes a very special brand of loyalty to wear those jerseys out in public, and to support a team that really rejoices with each win. So here's to Hartlepool, and their latest victory. May it be the first of many to come!
I can also relate. Detroit Lions, anyone? I am not a football fan, but my family has been faithful to the home team. They just won today for the first time in 2 seasons!!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_2/8277735.stm And here it is !!!!!!!! Hartlepool 3 v Walsall 0 !
I can't play the link; it's available only to UK users. But I am now officially a fan of Hartlepool!!! What are our team colors? And do we have a nickname or a mascot? If I'm going to be a fan, I need to know the basics!
I'm only kind of a fan of the Mets -- I think it's fun watching the creative ways they come up with to lose. The Yankees are no fun to watch lose. When they lose, they're just bad. I completely ruined my older son. The first football game he ever watched on TV was the Giants beating the Pats in the Superbowl. He probably won't see a more exciting game in his entire life.
Welcome aboard Alice. Blue and white stripes. Our mascot is a monkey (also our mayor). The monkey is quite impoertant in Hartlepool folklore...we hung one during the Napoleonic war....it was wearing French naval uniform mind ! We are in League One....three leagues below the Premiership (top league). We do cause the odd upset in cup games. Our home attendance is around 3000....thats not a type error 3000 ! We play on the east coast. Our ground was bombed in both world wars....so we are not over keen on German teams!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_2/8270976.stm We are on a roll ! I like it when they call us "spirited" !
Hooray! Hoping for continued good luck in the next game! My daughter's team has a big game tonight--league semi-final. They have been called "spirited" at times as well, but their opponents usually use some stronger language!
Hartlepool play Exeter on saturday..........My saturday is the following....get up at 11 am eat ready-brek with Co-co pops mixed in, slump into beanbag and watch "Bottletop Bill" then "Football focus" on BBC 1! Listen to football on the radio while I do school prep.....have a little cry if Hartlepool lose, have a joyous chuckle if Hartlepool win.....go back to bed !
