I'm going to be doing a lit circle with a group of reluctant sophomore readers. I am hoping that the lit circle will encourage them to take more ownership of the project and encourage responsibility as well as finding them something they may enjoy reading. I'm having trouble coming up with the books, however. Right now I am including Twisted, Tears of a Tiger, and Thirteen Reasons Why. I want to use a fourth book to keep the group sizes smaller but am struggling to come up with an idea. I read Tangerine in the hopes that it would work but I don't think it's quite right for the kids I have.

    Any ideas?

Funny you should mention that, Mopar! I was just looking at Sunrise Over Fallujah as my other choice. I have some kids in that class who have read Myers before and really liked him.

My kids love Walter Dean Myers stuff, too. Have you considered adding a graphic novel like something from Neil Gaiman's Sandman series or Persepolis?

When I was at the high school, Myers was a big hit with my freshman. They absolutely raved about him.

I also second the Walter Dean Myers! My kids love his work.
