So, I recently got married, and I applied for a name change on my teaching certificate. Before marriage, my name was Haley Elizabeth Kraemer. I took my maiden name as my middle name and added my married name. Now my name reads Haley Kraemer Burt. I just checked online, and they still had a Elizabeth as my middle name.

Is this a problem? If it probably won't affect anything, I won't worry about it. At least my last name is correct. That's the important part. Right?

    Original name: Haley Elizabeth Kraemer

    Married name: Haley Kraemer Burt

Name on Teaching License: Haley Elizabeth Burt

I can't imagine why it would affect anything... you may be able to change it when you renew your license next.

Agree. Try to change at your next renewal, but don't stress it now.

    Legally, it shouldn't matter.

I'd just give them a call or email and explain the situation. Something similar happened to me and they fixed it right away.

I would email or call and ask to have it corrected. It shouldn't be a problem either way.

I don't think it should be a problem...

Also, this is all your real information? You may want to use a made up name when posting on a public forum. Just a suggestion. :)

I, too, jettisoned one of my given names and use my maiden as my middle name. One employer refused to honor it because I had never officially changed my name to call name, maiden name, married last name. Only time I every had a problem, but seeing this post reminded me of it.

You may need to document your name change by submitting marriage certificate/etc. it shouldn't be a problem in being hired. Change it when you renew your license. (which makes me wonder who needs to renew certification? Mine is permanent.)

I think it depends when you got it (some teachers I've met who have taught for a long time have permanent certification, but it's changed since they were certified) and the state... I have an inital cert as of 2014, and they're only good for 2 years in my state (I have another state's intial cert as well and it's good for 4 years, but I don't teach in that state.) I have to upgrade my initial license to a professional license eventually and those are good for 5 years I think.

For those of us in NJ, once you get the standard certificate there is no expiration date. That actually surprises me, but I can certainly live with it! ;)

I wish I had that option, it's expensive to renew!

In Arkansas, you have to renew every five years.

Don't you love it? Honestly, remembering when to renew when each certificate could have a different date is my idea of a nightmare!

As far as I know, the CEAS doesn't expire, either.

I believe you are right - CEAS and CE are without expiration. Only provisional certificates have expiration dates to the best of my knowledge.

I have licenses in multiple states and they all expire! Those of you who don't have to worry about that are really lucky!

What can I say? Come to NJ - some things not great, but our licenses live as long as we do!

Haha. Pork rolls? Forever licenses? Why would anyone not live in NJ? :)
