Voicethread is one of my favorites. Here's poetry my k children read, but it could be written and read as well http://voicethread.com/#u35757.b336502.i1783198
I'm looking forward to working on it at the 1st grade level.

Also there's a great contest site http://www.poeticpower.com/ They publish about half the entries they receive and the parents have the option of buying the essay or poetry book but you don't have to buy it to be published (a whopping $25 - but my daughter spent her own money and bought one) Also, if at least 5 of your students get published you as the teacher get a free copy! It's quite a beautiful book. My K's were published 2x in the poetry book last year!

I'm trying something new this week actually. I am going to have the students publish on our mobile lab computers. We are talking about editing Monday and Tuesday and then will be doing this on Wednesday. It ought to be interesting to see how it goes. I also have a collection of "Squiggle" writing that they do through out the year. It's a line squiggle that they turn into a picture and then write a story about it. I collect them through the year and we turn them into a book at the end of the year. I'm also looking for weveral more ideas for this year. Great thread!

Voicethreads are great! I just finished one with my first graders and got over 60 comments on it from parents and relatives.
