This may seem like a silly question but we make the transition from primary writing paper to notebook paper in 3rd grade. However, they still don't usually write enough to fill a whole piece of notebook paper. Im going to display some of their writing in the hall for open house but I want it to make it look like they wrote more....can I use the primary lined paper(in cute patterns that match our writing topic) or will parents look at it and think they should have moved past that now.
Often my 3rd graders want to write on primary paper at the beginning of the year. We actually have to do lessons on how to use lined paper. For example, where the holes go, using margins, how the top of the paper works, etc. I save this for my first major project. They need to do this a lot and often have to restart a page because it is upside down or backwards. It takes awhile for them to get used to. In the meantime, for final drafts, I have made my own paper, with lines, but slightly bigger than regular loose leaf. It does not have the margins and things that kids need to get used to for loose leaf. For a display, I might print this paper on nice colored copy paper. Also, I skip lines so that they can fill it up a little better. I tend to want them all using loose leaf paper pretty soon in the school year. I also teach how to skip lines, which also fills the paper and helps with editing.
