Wow! I didn't even need to go on here until late October! I'm proud of myself!

After last year's shenanigans in my old school (once June came I was the first one out of that building) I'm in a new environment which I enjoy. I don't love it, but I'm surviving and not wanting to bang my head against a wall every night (just some nights :p)

Anyway, I'm working with the students on writing assignments, essays and such. I would like to know how you approach assigning them. what rubrics do you give, graphic organizers, time slots etc.

After some feedback from the kids' first assignment, they wanted more time (I told them I would add some within reason).

FYI I'm supposed to give them a persuasive piece this week.

So my question is, how do you structure a writing assignment?

There are any number of books on teaching writing, but one I like very much is Teaching Adolescent Writers by Kelly Gallagher.
