All of the classes in my school are going to write and publish a class book this year. The parents will get a chance to buy them when we are finished! I think this is an awesome idea and I'm really excited to get started.....with one problem.

I cannot think of a topic for our book! One teacher is doing a book along the lines of "If you Give a Mouse a Muffin" another teacher is having her class write a book about animals. If you have any ideas on a topic our class book can be on, my class and I would LOVE you! :) Thanks so much!

In my son's second grade, they read The Important Book by Margaret Wise Brown. and each child made his or her own page, patterning their writing after that in the book. It was very cute.

    Laf-a-lot,
How about a book along the lines of "My Favorite Center In My 1st Grade Class", OR "My Favorite Activity in My 1st Grade Class" OR "What Is It Like To Be A 1st Grader?", OR "What I Enjoy The Most In My 1st Grade Class", and last BUT not the least, "Watch Out 2nd Grade! I'm Coming Through!"
    Enjoy,
    Rebel1

Oops. I guess I should have read the whole post. I thought you modeling after a book. If you don't have to, then I love what Rebel1 said. Also, you could do something along the lines of "Everything I ever Learned I Learned in First Grade".

Also, there is a book called something like things that are most in the world. I'll get the exact title for you but that would be a great one, too.

How about a cookbook? Each of them could devise what they think is the correct recipe for something, then include an illustration.

I bet it would be hilarious!

Oh that is always hilarious! Many classes do that for Thanksgiving

    Chase a big fat turkey
Take her home and cram her in the oven at 9000 degrees
    Cook for 10 minutes

That's what I was thinking. You could either assign each a type of food (breakfast section, sandwich, dinner, dessert...) or just have them go for it. They could include illustrations-- I bet it would be great!!!

I'm going to make a class book soon called "terrible ways to lose a tooth." the kids have lots of stories about teeth falling out!

I did a class book based on the book "That Chickadee Feeling". I read the book and then had kids write/illustrate when they had that Chickadee Feeling. The responses were pretty great!
