I'm interested to hear about how you run Writer's Workshop in your classroom. We do a lot of writing in my classroom, but we don't necessarily have a time set aside for writer's workshop. I've finally got my administration to get on board with taking nap time out of the day (yes, my kindergartners were still "napping" up until December...and they definitely didn't need it!) so now I have a 40 minute opening each day. I was thinking of using the time to do Writer's Workshop. I've never implemented this in a classroom before and this is my first year teaching kindergarten. I would love any of your ideas and advice.

What are some of the topics you focus on in your mini-lessons?
Do the students always have a choice of what to write about? Do they use journals?
