I am starting 20 lessons for the first 20 days or to have a bank to pull from as I start implementing it at the beginning of the year. Here is what I have so far:

    1 Taking a Writing Sample
2 Building Community and Procedures (what it should look like,
feel like, sound like. talk about the importance of WW.
3 Writing Topics (brainstorm list of topics for when stuck)
    4 Different Forms of Writing
5 How to Use Writer’s Notebook (different pockets, stages, etc)
    6 Available Supplies
7 Procedures (What the teacher will be doing, what we should
do when the teacher is conferencing, progress charts, what
we should do if our pencil breaks or we need to go to the
    bathroom)
8 What to do when… words (if don't know how to spell a word,
    introduce resources- dictionary, etc.)
    9 Revision

I'm thinking editing would be another mini lesson. Also prewriting or brainstorming? What else for the first 20 days? I will probably change order and think of more things as they come up at school. Just trying to get a head start and have a bank of mini lessons to pick and choose from.

    Thanks!

I think it's a great idea to start organizing your first 20 days. I do that too. I think editing should be one of your mini-lessons. Also, I think I'd get them writing a list of topics as soon as possible so they can get to writing. Procedures tend to develop in my classroom as we need them meaning we will start with a few rules then adjust as needed during a class meeting. Kids sometimes come up with ideas I hadn't thought of. After all, each group of kids has different needs when it comes to procedures because some classes will be more focused and motivated than others.
