:D I have to brag on my students today. All day long they were on task, and quiet!!!!!!!! I'm so proud of them!!! While the counselor was in teaching her lesson near the end of the day, I ran down to the office to talk o the principal. She's going to do a special recognition over the intercom tomorrow morning. My students don't know yet. She asked if they could come down and receive a small prize at that time (yes!). I'm so proud of them. This is the first time all year that they have been like this. So not to disturb their mood, I emailed the teacher next door to come and listen. She was shocked when she came in.
Have I said that I'm proud of them?!

I know! When I asked her, she immediately wrote it on a sticky note and put it on the microphone to remind herself.

You deserve a huge pat on the back, the kids did it because they were motivated by you!!!

Really, I don't know what got into them. I kept bragging on them all day. I kept thinking it was because I am not feeling good (cough), but I've been sick several times this year like that. I think it just clicked for them today.

That is really great. Wouldn't it be fantastic if we could be teachers every day, rather than all the other things that interfere with our real job.Do you think it might be a better idea to have your principal come up yo personally congratulate your class and tell them how proud she is rather than have her broadcast it over the intercom?Keep it up!

Well we do daily recognitions over the intercom, usually individual students. My students are hardly choosen (they're drawn out of a box of tickets), so I think whole class recognition to the school will really make them proud. They deserve it. Now, tomorrow after the announcement they might be a little excited. We'll see how it goes. :)

Congratulations! It sounds like you had a wonderful day! Your students deserve the recognition.
I wish I could get my kindergarten kids to stop talking for five minutes. If they stopped for a whole day they'd probably have to call the ambulance for me. :)

We don't have an intercom but I've done something similar. I privately talk to any major adult and tell them to come up to them and gush later or I gush in front of them. Haha. It works. It doesn't last forever but bask in the glow while it does. Keep it up!

I'm so happy for you! I also had a pretty good day, with some phenomenal moments (like when everyone was working independently enough for me to work with one kid individually... unfortunately, that is not a regular occurence)

:D I stopped by Wal-Mart on the way back into town last night and got some. Unfortunately, we can't give our students food rewards (state law).

I don't understand our school. The cafeteria gives weird stuff out for snacks at times. We've gotten cookies and gummy worms as two examples recently.

Well the kids were completely shocked! I was expecting the principal to give them All-Star tickets (we're the All-Stars), which they can put in the bucket for a daily drawing. She gave them really cool pencils that say "Star Student" and have a nice star eraser on the end. I'm impressed.
They're doing a great job again so far today.

Keep using this lesson. Remember ... people notice when you are good.

I tell my kids at home that all the time. Every time someone compliments them in public I go back and remind them..."See....I told you people notice it when you are good. It leaves a good impression."
