I don't have a confirmed job offer or anything, but I got a call today to interview for a position that is only teaching English for 1 period a day. The position is 2 hours away from where I live now. I've been waiting to hear back from a couple of other districts in the same area that I already interviewed for but it could be a foot in the door for a good district. What do you guys think?

1 period a day isn't going to pay well and you probably won't be offered benefits. The schedule will also greatly decrease the number of subbing jobs you could accept...and you'd have to move...
Personally, I would not take it.

I think I would go for the intervew, and see if there's any way this could morph into anything else.

If not, then I agree; you would probably end up losing money.

^ Agreed. It seems like you'd be putting a lot of eggs in a very small basket.

My first job was an hour and a half away. It was 1/2 a day. I went for the interview and they were so impressed they adjusted the schedule. I worked four days a week and had Fridays to sub. At least three Fridays a month I subbed in the district. The next year, they changed my hours to be 3/4 a day so I got benefits and still allowed me to work only four days a week. I was a mom of a newborn, so that allowed for Fridays to do doctor visits and other new mommy stuff. I later was allowed to choose from three jobs in the district. I picked based on the way the staff at the building treated me.

My advice...go talk to them. If they are impressed, they will figure out a way to make it worth your wild.

Hmm.. my tutoring job was only 2 hours a day. I would go, but task if there are any jobs that would fill out the day such as TA, secretary, or possibly lunch lady.

    I just wanted to give a follow-up...

I went to the interview and had a great time:) something I never had during an interview! I give credit to the discussions on this site that help me prepare.

During the interview the principal said she was able to offer another position teaching 2 more periods or some parapro hours to fill up the day-so I wont just be teaching one period each day. Overall, I am happy I applied to the position. It was open for awhile and I saw it a few times before I decided to apply. Also, within a couple of hours after the interview the district called and email me about my references needing to be updated (a couple were my supervising teachers and they had school numbers) so I think its a good sign.:haha:

    Thanks everyone for your replies.
