So I just experienced what I think may have been my worst interview ever. Lucky for me I had a great interview this morning prior to this.

It was a panel interview with 6 people (ok, normal, no biggie) but they interviewed 3 candidates at a time. There was no introductions, no tell me about yourself, no time to ask questions. They would ask a question and then aske the other 2 candidates the same question. I found this very tough to come up with unique answers when the other 2 candidates gave very comprehensive answers and went before me. I tried to expand upon what they had said but it was very nerve wracking! I am so glad that this was literally my last choice school district out of all the interviews I have been on this season.

Anyone have any advice should another group interview situation arise??

Wow, now that's just odd! All I can guess is that the are seriously pressed for time and needed to get in lots of interviews in one day. I think what you did, expand on their answers or adjust as needed, is what I would have done as well. And geez, if they weren't last on your list already I'd think they would be after this odd interview practice. Maybe there's something to it that I'm missing but I definitely don't get it.

I never been in this type of interview before although I've heard of them. The very idea offends me and I find it to be disrespectful to the candidates.

I had a bad feeling in one of my interviews and I think I was right. I didn't get that job and I am actually so glad. If they treat potential teachers like pitbulls in the interview, they may always treat them that way.

To make it worse, they asked for a copy of my transcripts at the end. (Now she did tell me this on the phone but I had another interview right before this and I gave it to them with my copy of certification thinking they were the one that had asked for it!) SO, I didnt want to seem like a flaky jerk so I gave them the last copy I had in my portfolio....now I have to pay $10- to get another copy from my two colleges! Ugh...

That is totally bizarre! I wonder what the reasoning was on having three people at a time. I have never seen something like that before.

They had 8 sessions, so they interviewed 24 people, I guess to save time and intimidate us....the more I think about it, Im so mad that I gave them my last transcript bc I knew at that point I had blown it and wasnt too happy with how long it took me to get there either! Oh well!

I have had interviews like that before and I would walk out annoyed. At least you know that this school is not a good fit for you.

    Good luck.

I had a fabulous (and closer to home!) interview today! Fell in love with the school! Followed by an interview with the Super that went well and a writing sample! This more than makes up for my crappy day yesterday! :)

And a writing sample? I wasn't asked to do a writing sample unless they were ready to hire me :) Hopefully that's a good sign for you too!!

I've had to do writing samples at first rounds I would say 3 other times (out of like 12 interviews in the past 2 years), I guess its a little common here.

But, I heard that the called the school I worked at this past year...my principal was on vacay til Tuesday though...definite good sign! :)

I think meeting with the Super is a good sign and calling the references is a very good sign!

    Good Luck-

What I don't get about the first interview if they had 6 people for 3 interviewees, why didn't they just have 2 interviewers and 1 interviewee, and then complied notes after??? Would have given a better idea of candidates and made them feel dignity as well.

Yuck! That is horrific. I don't think I would want to work for a district that treats people that way. Awful!
