I just attended a workshop about work stations. The presenter said that her students stay in the same station for the entire 45 minute reading time. They rotate activites within that area. That way there is no cleaning up, rotating, etc in the middle of reading group instruction time. Do any of you do that? If so, how do you make sure that each student completes the activities? How do they rotate within the station?

All I can think of is the "I can..." lists at the stations of all the different activities they can do at each station. At the writing station they might write a letter, then make a list, then write a sticker story. Bunch of activities at the same station.

We have four groups set up and each group works on one activity for about 30 - 40 minutes. They only rotate to a different activity the next morning.
