We live in a heavily wooded area, and part of our house has cedar siding. Apparently this is tasty to woodpeckers, because we now have several holes in different areas. We are working on some repairs, but suspect it will just happen again.

Any ideas from deterring them from coming back?

Cornell Lab of Ornithology has some great information on woodpeckers, their behaviors, and how to deter them from your property. Outstanding site - look at the menu and other links on the left hand side of the page:

Mine likes to define his territory by drumming my gutters. They love the cedar trees on my property.
