Just found this site tonight and am so excited!

    http://wonderopolis.org/

There is a new "wonder" every day with a brief video and information. I think this would be so much fun to make a daily or weekly activity!

    Check it out!

That's so cool-thank you for sharing that link. I actually have a "Wonder Wall" in my room where the kids can ask questions like that-they will love this.

I used this in my classroom this past year a bit. I would suggest viewing the content first; sometimes I felt like it was a waste of time, and the content wasn't very interesting. Overall, a very cool site!

Ok, I am loving what I am seeing! It reminds me of all the questions my DD always asks and my typical response (when I don't know): "That sounds like a good question to research".

I discovered this site after subbing for a pair of teachers (that I've now subbed for tons over the last year or two) - and I absolutely love it! It provides a bit of fun random content that students always love, it is a higher-level text that can introduce kids to many new content words through reading it aloud, it provides ample opportunities to work with predictions and inferences (especially with the "tomorrow's wonder of the day" hints), and it can lead to some wonderful discussions and/or students asking questions which often leads to researching.

I'll often skip the video, unless I see that it adds significantly to the Wonder or to student understanding of what we just read about, but even if the Wonder is something "out there" that doesn't seem to be "important", I still feel like it is a wonderfully productive use of 5 minutes...especially since you can place that 5 minutes of reading somewhere where you can't fit anything else! (i.e. right at the end of the day after cleaning up...or right before lunch, etc...!)

Thanks! I had seen this somewhere before and forgot about it. This would be terrific to show during breakfast (which is now in our room)!
