Hello fellow teachers! I am in need of some help! Some back story: My classroom recently was moved to a room without windows or AC. The majority of our building does not have AC but I am the only classroom that has no windows AND no AC. Our school is about 30 minutes south of Boston and we are transitioning to fall but our days have still been in the mid to high 70s. This week has been primarily rain with highs around 72 degrees. My classroom is maintaining a horrible 78 degrees. It was bumped up to 79 yesterday after my 28 eighth graders came to my class after gym. Of course!!! I am looking for some sort of help on what to do. I cringe at the thought of being in this room in late May and June when it is 90 and my room has no source of ventilation. I've been trying to research stand alone AC's (no vent since I have no window) but am not sure that will work. Have any teachers out there experienced this? Do I go to administration?
I would have box fans EVERYWHERE! I would so smother!!! Bless your heart!! Maybe call OSHA and pick their brains about it.
Thank you for your response! Hahaha I have three fans going to help but of course they are not quiet so I have to turn them off sometimes to make sure the students can hear each other. Thank you for the OSHA idea. I didn't think of that!
Box fans would be a no no with the fire marshall. Your school won't let you have a standalone ac unless they buy it. Just find other space on hot days. Cafeteria, art room, etc.
In my state, having a room without windows would require air conditioning. AC should be installed in your classroom. Budget and monetary difficulties are taken into consideration, but arrangements should be made. While I do not live in your state, consider talking to maintenance.
