Right now they're saying we will be back in school May 18th. I'm the only one on my team who really thinks we are going back. What do you all think?
Ohio is out through May 1st, but no one expects to go back then. My district is out for summer break starting May 22nd.
At this point, the students have been given a return date of May 4th, but that could very well be extended. We are in school right until the end of June and the hope is that we'll get back at some point before then.
We are supposed to go back May 4th, but since we are a major hub for the virus I'm doubtful. Our last day in May 15th, anyway, so I don't see the point in going back for two weeks, especially if we'd be social distancing still then and have to come up with a modified schedule, class changes, etc. May 1st is our seniors last day, so they won't be back regardless.
Right now our first day back in the building with students would be May 4th. Our last day with students is May 14th. Unless things change drastically, I do not see us back in session this year.
I do not think we will be back. May 4th is our return date, but I highly doubt that will happen. We need to hit the apex, then see the COVID-19 cases decrease substantially. My best prediction is they will let sectors at a time return to help get the economy going again. Education is not a money maker, so I don't think there will be a rush to have schools on site. Since we're already distance learning, I think the recommendation, and what most schools will do, is finish the year this way.
I think schools will probably be out the rest of this school year & I really hope to God everything's back to normal for everyone to start fresh w/ the 2020-21 school year in Aug.
Our start back day is April 20th but we're on stay home order until then too, so we're almost certain not to go back this year.
We are on distance learning for the rest of the year. I'm in California, and I would say this is or will be true for the rest of the state.
I doubt it unless this is a rural state that hasn't been very impacted. I know in my state they are expecting the "peak" to be sometime this month. We would obviously need to continue social distancing beyond that, and then as cases go down they will gradually lift restrictions and open some things up. Our governor had said schools would be one of the last things to open due to the complete inability to do any kind of social distancing in them. Most districts in my state (including mine) announced distance learning for the rest of the year a few days ago. I am least hopeful that we will open back up in the fall- a lot of my teammates are wary of even that happening.
If this thing doesn't make a huge break and I mean huge by the end of June, those sentiments would be reality.
I doubt it...maybe by June 1, but many states are already out by then. AZ and many states have already cancelled for the rest of the school year.
In North NJ, we don't really expect to be going back until Fall. Most events have already been cancelled, they're probably a couple of weeks away from simply cancelling graduation.
We are on stay at home until April 30th. Our school ends on May 20th, so I doubt that we go back. Plus the Superintendent for the DOE recommended to our governor to close schools for the rest of the semester. Making the same point of only a few days left in the year beyond May !st.
My school was supposed to open on May 4th too but they have extended it until May 18th. I’m a 9th grade student and I want to be a teacher when I’m older! I hope we go back before it. I miss my teachers and friends but I have gotten used to doing online classes for now.
Missouri just announced today that we are out the rest of the year. I was expecting it. I really hope we can start summer school after June 1, but the way things keep going I'm starting to think that will be canceled too.
My state predicted to peak... *checks calendar* tomorrow, actually. I'm still not anticipating going back, though.
We got word that summer school is officially canceled, too. The district office administrators (assistant & associate superintendents) are using the sentence, "if we come back in August..." far too much. It makes me cringe every time I hear that. Brings on such an unsettling feeling.
I don't see why every governor won't just go ahead and cancel for the year. Stop tugging the chains of the parents. Who exactly is going to go back right now anyway?
Oh my God...! That is awful news. Terrible. I am sincerely hoping that you all can return in the fall. Do you know when the final decision will be made about when the new school year commences?
My school, for one. Our summer break is still a go (thankfully). We are finishing on May 28th as scheduled and have had no disruptions. We are one of the very few lucky ones who transitioned to distance learning marvelously after a week of very intensive training.
Probably at the 11th hour. Late July/early August. It wouldn’t just be my district, though. It would be most districts in this area, I’m sure.
I am just shaking my head in dismay right now. That is so scary. I can’t imagine and would not be able to cope. I am also worrying about all of your students. How are the little ones going to graduate to middle school?
We have nothing official except an indefinite statewide closure at this point. I heard the word ‘October’ today in a discussion about when it was hoped that things would be back to normal. Praying that is not the case!
I have heard from friends all around the country whose districts, and neighboring districts, are teaching remotely. Many of these used spring break, or extended break by a week, to train staff.
Our governor has said that he wants to begin sending children back to school soon because "no one under 25 has died in the state". I guess it doesn't matter that 18000 have been infected and over 400 souls have died and the number is still growing.
We only “lost” one week of school and I am on my Spring Break right now. It’s nice that I don’t have to go back until April 20th.
All of our 6th graders are moving onto middle school. We don’t retain anyone in 6th grade. We don’t have any kind of promotion/gradation ceremony, either, so they’re not losing out on anything.
October? Pfff......... just heard this lady on tv say that we should prepare to get back to normal some time in the fall of 2021. Good grief.........
Why would the NY governor chalk the mayor's decision to close schools for the year as "his opinion"? Why didn't the NY already do this?
Because NY's governor says that we are doing SUCH a good job at "changing the curve" and "we control the virus, it doesn't control us" OKKKKKKK! NYC is much worse off than the rest of the state. People who are not from NY don't really understand how we do not like to be compared to NYC LOL
Our province has extended the state of emergency until mid-May. It was announced that we won't be going back May 4th as planned, but nothing further has been decided.
