I have several students who have recently gotten it it into their heads they don't need chairs.

Theoretically, I have no problem with this. These are the kids that could probably do very well to stand.

But, aye, there's the rub. By standing at our typical first-grader-sized desks, they eventually find themselves doing barrel rolls and such over the desks' surface.

I suspect a proper desk mean for standing would help the problem, but we can only raise them so high and I'm low on teacher monies.

Maybe petition for a few third grade sized desks. Most schools have a few extra in various places.

A couple of our teachers use bed risers.

You could get copy paper boxes to let them write on. Or, bed risers work too I’ve heard. I’d be worried that the desks would tip over on risers though.

I had my DH make standing desks from bookshelves with wood tops. We added wheels so I can move them around.

Do you have a long counter in the room? I used to let those types work at the counter until they wanted to sit down.

Not so long a counter, but a counter indeed that might be space enough!
