I’ve applied to over 50 schools. Only 4 gave me an interview, five outright rejected me, and the remaining ones never responded. I have taught for a year in the School District of Philadelphia, and have served as a long term sub twice in the suburbs. What could be working against me?
Could be lots of things, or nothing. You got 4 interviews from 50 apps? I'd say that's actually good depending on how competitive the area is. Some people can't even get interviews. The chances that 4 interviews could lead to one job offer is pretty good actually.
I am curious about grade level and subject(s) you are applying for, and your state. Honestly, I haven't a clue about why or why not anybody gets any kind of job or not. Update: Sorry. Your other post indicate elementary and Pennsylvania.
You are a new teacher in a field that is typically fully saturated with well qualified candidates (elementary education), and with the pandemic going on, many schools have found themselves looking for experienced teachers with well developed skill sets who bring a lot to the table. I suspect that things will change - slowly - as teachers and students are vaccinated, but elementary education has been, and most likely will continue to be, a situation where there is a maximum number of candidates for available positions, meaning that finding, and thriving in a district job will be difficult. The pandemic has simply put those factors in sharper focus.
