Whos looking for a job for 2014-2015? How is it going with applying/interviews? It seems like there are more jobs this year has anyone else noticed this? Since I got my credential 2.5 weeks ago I have applied to 36 jobs and have gotten 3 interviews (1 sub for now, and 2 for next year). My goal is at least 100 applications this season or a job. How about everyone else? I have also applied to get a Texas credential to increase the amount of jobs to apply for and am waiting for the fingerprint card. The hubby wants me to also apply to get one in Oregon, and I'm thinking of applying to CALWEST too. How about everyone else? How are you guys getting the jump on the new hiring season.
I was confused. 36 jobs, that's a lot! How many different states are you applying to? When I initially earned my credential back in 2012, I applied statewide (almost). Now I'm in my second year of teaching first grade, and I'm applying only in one specific area, which is far from where I currently live but still in CA. I'm attending a job fair tomorrow and I have an interview next Thursday! I'm nervous but so excited! I'm applying to public and charter schools. I currently work at a charter and I love my school, but I hate my area. We will see what happens!
Right now 35 have been in Cali statewide and one in Arizona. I am hoping to move north away from SOCAL. What area do you want to move too? I think it is great you have already had an interview in the area you want and a job fair their. The ones I have so far are all still in SOCal area though about 1 hr to 1.5 hrs away from where I live except the sub one which is close.
I'm looking because I'm moving back home. I've applied for a lot. I've already had one interview and just scheduled another one today.
I am also hoping to get out of SoCal. I am applying up north, but not bay area...a different area. I don't want to be much more specific outside of a PM lol.
Thats cool I understand. I am applying everywhere but my dream is to end up back in the Sacramento area. I want to live somewhere I can afford to pay rent, buy a house one day, or afford to have a kid. Thats not really an option living in socal right now. I wish you luck in getting the job in the city you desire.
I am. There's only like 8-10 districts I can feasibly live in given that I cannot drive - it would cost way too much to take a taxi to any towns further away. Even the way I am looking, some of the further out towns would be around $650 a month to take a taxi there and back.
I will be looking closer to home. Currently I have a position at a wonderful school, but it's an hour away. Moving closer to my school isn't an option right now, so I will be looking in the area I live in. If I don't get anything it's alright, too, because I love my current school.
I'm also looking to find a position closer to home. I teach at a pleasant school, but the commute is about an 80 minute drive. I started looking in earnest last year and had a couple of interviews and one offer. I rejected the one offer because it was still an hour away, and the pay was too low. I know that I am fortunate to be a position to pick and choose. I teach a rare subject, so jobs don't come up often. On the bright side, there is usually a very small applicant pool. Last year, the jobs I was rejected from went to young beginners, and I am afraid that my years of experience and advanced credentials are now liabilities rather than assets.
I am looking for a job starting in the fall. So far they haven't posted many around here yet, but I have gone on one screening interview and am hoping to go to a job fair in two weeks. Good luck to everyone!
And over here on the other side of the country: Looking to get away from where I'm teaching now. I'm a second year music teacher in the city. CRAZY BUSY. Want to live in the country. So far there have been a couple of appealing openings...I have pretty specific things I'm looking for so...applied to one job so far and was not hired. I've got 4 I want to look at applying to this weekend and there's another where my friend works that hasn't been posted yet but I know will be coming open. I'm trying to kinda get my foot in the door there with the music department but we'lll see...
I got an interview appointment at a job fair that our local system is sponsoring. I got my SpEd certification last year and so I am sure that's why they contacted me. I am very nervous but will spruce up my resume and give it a whirl!
