We recently had a post about young teachers. How about all of you that have done this job for 20 or more years.

I will start. 23 and one half at the end of this year.:lol::confused::help::eek::cool::hugs::(:)
All the emotions I have felt during those years!!

This will be the end of my 25th year; 20 of those have been at the same school.

I missed 6 to be home with my kids, so this is year #23 for me, 16 in the same school.

My husband is finishing year #26 in his school.

This is my 30th year. All except two years have been in the same grade and at the same school. I may have the years, but I certainly don't have the means to retire!

I would hav 20 years but I taught for a year then stayed home for 10 years and have taught now for 10 years. If I had not stayed home I would be at 21 years but I loved being home for a while with my kids even though we no extra money for those years.

Same here... had I not stayed home to raise my kids I would have had 27 years now. (though each of my years away was filled with some-sort of educational volunteering-no credit for those though)

Sheeesh... that level of the pay scale would be so nice right about now.

Did she start when she was really, really, young or is she 70?????

I stayed home 3 years so that would put me at 26 and a half. I had to go back because we were so broke then.

Not as easy as it sounds to count my years. 1 1/2 years subbing, a half year doing very part time teaching, 2 more years in my district not under contract (hourly Title I teacher), 25 years and 1 month under contract.

This is year twenty for me. I was in the military, went to law school, and then served in private pracitce, so I got started about 10 years late. My wife is on year 26 teaching High School English (and briefly middle school English and History).

I think it's 22 or 23. All at the same school. I'd have to stop and figure it out, and right now I think I should go to bed.

Just coming to end of 28th year. 26 full time (21 in my last school) then after taking my pensions 2 years on supply. Probably worked about 60% of the last 2 years.

Are you going to work until you physically can’t anymore? What about retirement? If you keep this up, then you will just live to work...

I have! (after this school year)

Wait....why did I put an exclamation point....I am really old (47).

I have taught many grades, taught in various settings, and classrooms.

A colleague of mine has been teaching for 35 years. She is 62. On the other hand, another colleague of mine has been teaching for 4 years and is 31. Both teachers are in my department.

I’m finishing up number 25. I work with two teachers who are finishing up year forty.

I can retire in four years but won’t be able to afford to retire until eighteen years due to insurance changes from the Texas legislators. If I didn’t need medical insurance, it’d be easier to retire.

I am 5 years younger than my husband, so I may retire when he does. I have my health, I enjoy my job, I get enough time to pursue other interests, and I will only be working part time starting next year. Seems to be the ideal of situations for me.

You didn’t contribute to a Roth IRA or 401k? Why not?
