I maybe shouldn't be filling this out yet cause it's not official. But I had my interview today and he offered me the job. :2up: We both signed a Letter of Interest that he will send to HR. So I'm waiting for my contract. :D

Wow! What is with Texas? Looks like people are interviewing in that area. Don't worry if you are interviewing in other states. They aren't as up on the hiring game. I know Ohio is just getting started. Waiting for retirements to be put into writing. That is the only way to get a job up North..someone retires!

Let me re-phrase that...maybe only teachers with math/science/or experience are being hired first? Anyone with no/little experience and not in middle school or high school hard to place jobs, hired?

Texas is a huge state without the budget cuts of California. I think Texas is also well represented on A to Z. 10 of the 22 jobs are not in high need areas. You are right though, high needs people are getting jobs quickly. When I started the list I think most of the science ones were on there. I don't know how many are brand new teachers, but I am and I'll be teaching first. Are you looking too, amedinoh?

It is still early. Lots of names to add!! Keep 'em coming.

ugh..I still do not have a job yet..I graduated in December and out of the 11 people that graduated with me with ECE certification I am the only one without a job yet. I have had 9 interviews since December and the last one was over 2 months ago. Once incident that really upset me was I had an interview with a school and the principal could not interview me so two teachers interviewed me who had never done an interview before. I knew this because they told me. Well 1 week later a friend who graduated with me walked into the school to hand in a resume and got an interview with the principal and got hired!! :| I am so depressed over this. When I was in college I keep getting told by professors and other classroom teachers "you will get a job, you will have no problems" I feel like my file at the school district has a big DO NOT HIRE stamp on it.

lindsnh- I'm sorry you are having a hard time...some of my dear friends on here are having the same issue. Have you opened yourself up to all options? Including private or charter schools? Even if it is not your 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice...it could help in the future :)

Just received a call yesterday offering me a position. I, like many others, am going the alternative certification route after retiring from my first job.

How long have you been trying?
Researched district last year while planning to make the move. Because of my previous job I was unable to start until this next school year, so I began looking at specific positions for next year a few weeks ago.

How many resumes did you send out?
Really just sent out one resume. I focused in on one district and things just really worked out.

How many interviews or job fairs?
2 - one interview with HR director to get into alternative program and one with principal at school I applied for a position with. I never went to any job fairs.

    What general geographic area?
    Colorado - Denver area.

And of course what grade and/or subject?
    K-5 Special Ed

I realize I was very lucky to come across the right situation at the right time and it worked for me. High needs subject at high needs school probably helped as well. Good luck to everyone still looking.
