Good luck with the job fairs tomorrow, teaching1st, Grace and Teachling and good luck with yours next week smalltowngal! If all these districts are having job fairs, a lot more of us should have good news to share in the upcoming weeks!

    Job

Hi, I got a job Today.
My first interview and it was just with the principal.
I cant believe it! I have two more interviews set up for next week. I guess I will have to call and cancel them.
Dream district, 5min from my house.

I'm new to this forum and I cant seem to find my previous post. Can someone tell me how to find all of my post? Thanks!

Ahhhh!!!! I'm going bonkers right now about getting everything ready for tomorrow. I had to go to the Dept. of Edu. today to convert my certificate and add an endorsement. I also had a volleyball game to coach tonight. Now I'm still up trying to get my things together for the job fair tomorrow. I still need to type a cover letter and now I'm thinking of redoing my resume to make it one page instead of the 2 pages I have.

    The results...

Well I actully don't have any results yet from the job fair. It was an hour and a half away from my house and it started at 8am. So I got no sleep last night and was super tired.

I was kinda upset when I got there. My impression from their flyer was that they were going to have booths set up and principals were going to be available so we can meet them and talk to them. Well...that wasn't the case. They were doing screening interviews. So they had someone get you from where you were sitting and you only got to talk with one principal! Ugh! I was not happy. I wasn't sure if I should talk to the one at the school I was interested in or just let fate handle it.

I finally asked if I could talk to the principal at the school I wanted. I'm wanting to continue to teach in 1st grade. But there were no openings at her school for first grade. :( She said she had a pre-kindergarten position and liked how I have my early childhood endorsement. She said that they might have an opening for 1st grade. She is trying to get the district to give her another position for 1st grade. I told her to definately call me if she is able to get the position. She said she would, so I guess that's good. :2up:

So I will have to keep you updated on what happens. Hopefully there will be a 1st grade job!

Well- No official job offer yet, but the job fair went really well. This school district doesn't send out contracts until May 11th, so I won't know anything for sure until they start getting them back...probably mid to late May. I did get some extremely positive feedback, so I'm anxiously waiting for this month to go by so I can start figuring out what to do! :)

Well, my 1st experience in these types of job fairs was ok. The fair was basically a cattle call. The district at least in the elementary level does not have much openings. It basically was a "we currently have no openings but will keep your resume on file" scenario. Still, it's gives me reassurance that it's a very good district because they have a very low turnover rate. Average teacher has been in the district for 10 yrs (researched the stats)! It's one of the highest regarded districts in TX so I may just have to get in through the backdoor so to speak. I'm looking at some other options to get in the district -- won't give up. Another good thing that came out of this experience is that I met some great teachers. I even exchange phone #'s with one teacher that has 21 yrs experience. It was a good experience overall. :)

How long have you been trying? Well I started in mid-March and I got a job offer in mid-April so about a month. I was VERY blessed in my job search.

How many resumes did you send out? Well I didn't do any cold sends. I only handed out resumes at job fairs, but all in all I probably gave out around 25, one to each medium to big school district in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

How many interviews or job fairs? I went to four job fairs including one big one that my university held in which you talked to district and they tried to pursuade you to go to their individual job fair. Counting the interviews I did at job fairs, I probably did...7 or 8.

What general geographic area? Dallas-Forth Worth Metroplex, Texas

And of course what grade and/or subject? Spanish 8-12 but I plan to work solely in high school.

I have accepted a position for Middle School Math. I have had two job offers so far out of the two interviews I went on. I sent out about eight resumes and/or online apps. I did not get any interviews with my DD, so I am at a district that is a pretty good drive from my house (I am in a fairly rural location). Part of me is still hoping for something in the close-by district to save me from the drive, but the school and principal seem really nice so perhaps it will all work out. (right now I am feeling very anxious about it - probably just new job jitters)

I just got a job! In the past 4 weeks, I applied to 14 school districts, but only had one interview. I will be teaching just outside of Austin, TX, and landed a SpEd resource teaching position in early elementary, which one of the two jobs I was hoping for! Good luck to everyone else who is still searching- I know the DFW area has several new elementary schools opening in districts across the region!
