How long have you been trying? Three years, but I subbed for all of them. How many resumes did you send out? I have no idea, this year at least 25, but the school board I have been in has an online resume system, so I just had to click on them, so thats probably another 75? How many interviews or job fairs? I only had two interviews, both over the phone, and due to policy, I wasn't eligible for the local fair, only if I had a 100% term (which I did not) What general geographic area? I'm moving to Northern Manitoba And of course what grade and/or subject? Grade 3
The HS job fell through. I had to turn it down because they were not going to be able to offer me as much as they originally thought. Since it was a job where I would have had to relocate for, it just wasn't possible without the higher salary. So, I bit the bullet and turned it down, hoping something else would come along....and it did! My perfect job!!
Well, I've been stalking these forums for quite a while, but finally decided to post... mostly out of sheer excitement really. I was offered, and accepted, a middle school position 2 days ago teaching 7th and 8th grade social studies. So there IS hope for you social studies folks out there. How long have you been trying? Since this past winter. How many resumes did you send out? Around 100 How many interviews or job fairs? 5 Interviews, 4 job fairs What general geographic area? Rural Illinois
I got a job!!! Hey Everyone! I got a job for the 2008-09 school year. I am going to be teaching 5th grade. I am in San Antonio where the job market for teaching is pretty strong. I was basically freaking out because I didn't get any interviews all summer. However, last week I got two calls for interviews. The second school I walked into I knew right away that this was going to be my school. I believe I got this position because I e-mailed the H.R. director and requested a preliminary interview. It went really well and I put together an awesome packet with my resume, philosophy, awards, letters of rec. etc. I finally got a call on Thurs. for an interview and I was offered the job on Fri. I think it is important to be aggresive in the job search and give your packet to everyone that you know. Don't get frustrated if you keep yourself out there you will get a call!

Finally got the job! How long have you been trying? SE Virginia And of course what grade and/or subject? Kindergarten I'm a Dec 2007 graduate
Well I finally got hired at a private school I have been substituting and working as a PT nanny (on certain days) for the past 5 years while looking for a full-time teaching job. I can RELATE to everyone on here who is frustrated with the process of sending out resumes, applications, etc and not hearing back from anyone. I went to the job fair 2-3 times since graduating. I finally got hired next year because I tried something I hadn't tried before. I started making phone calls to schools I had never heard of before because they were in towns I don't normally drive to. This really worked for me. ***Some of the schools I called don't advertise on their main school site or other common places where I was looking like on craigslist.*** So my adventures of job looking were a lot longer than I had planned but if you keep trying and make a good impression, you will get the job. I also worked as a private tutor so a mom was able to give a personal phone call to the principal who had interviewed me. I think that REALLY helped me. Stay strong, and don't GIVE UP on your dreams! I'm only 28!
It's funny you should mention craigslist--- I looked on there just yesterday and found a position that I am interested in and have an interview on Thursday! Although, I have to be honest, I'm a bit skeptical because it was listed on craigslist.
I FINALLY GOT A JOB! I have no clue how 5th grade works but I am so happy I could skip. How long have you been trying? The summer How many resumes did you send out? 25 plus How many interviews or job fairs? 3 What general geographic area? West TN And of course what grade and/or subject? 5th grade science, social studies, and writing
I got the job a few weeks ago, but only joined this forum recently, so... How long have you been trying? Since June. My first (and only) real attempt was attending a job fair in late June. How many resumes did you send out? None. I gave about 5 out in person, though. How many interviews or job fairs? Two, coming from one job fair. What general geographic area? The south-east. And of course what grade and/or subject? High school physics (and chemistry, inevitably!), grades 11-12 from basic 'physical science' through to honors/AP and college dual enrollment physics. Graduated Spring '08 with MS Physics. This is what helped me get hired; of all the sciences, physics seems to be the one where it's most strongly preferred that teachers should be subject majors. Unfortunately, physics majors usually don't want to teach high school (though they will happily complain about "the state of physics teaching in the US"... self-fulfilling prophecy, anyone?!)
Congrats Teaching4God and Electron! and to everyone else who's received a job recently!!!!:2up: My how this thread has grown!!! :wow:
