    Hi Panjteach,

    Congratulations with your new Job!!!

I also live in PA and I have been looking for a teaching job since March. I relocated from New York City and I have five years experience. I also had trouble with PA giving me a full certification. However, I had no problem with NJ issuing me its standard certification in Elementary Education. I sent about 80 resumes and went to one interview. Job hunting is frustrating, but I will not give up. By the way how to you sign up for online applications. Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks

How long have you been trying? steadily since May
How many resumes did you send out? around 50-60
How many interviews or job fairs? 1 job fair, 12-15 interviews
What general geographic area? Piedmont Region of NC
And of course what grade and/or subject? 5th grade

I already taught 1 year (5th grade) in NC and had been offered that position but I was looking to get into another school district.

    Good thread, good energy

    Hi everyone,

I had 12 or more job offers from Texas before I even graduated. I also had an offer from southern Cali. I choose a 1st grade position in a suburb school. I then spent the next 5 years at different schools teaching in the lower grades. I never had a problem getting a job and the grade I wanted. I think the demand in Texas is so huge that you can pick and choose here. I realized that I keep changing schools because I needed to do something else not be in the classroom. I went back to school to become a librarian. I was so nervous about getting a job because not every school has one and is not required to. There are many schools with aides or teachers who work in the library. I applied to about 3 different districts and got a call within a week for one of the schools in one districts. Also during this time, the librarian I interned with was married to a Principal in another district that I had not applied to, but he called me and I set up an interview the same day as the other. Both interviews went very well and within a few days they both offered me the job and I didn't even have my license yet. I accepted the second position as I figured the Principal who's wife is a librarian would be most understanding and supportive and the school was only a few years new. I was also able to train with the librarian for a few weeks as she was so welcoming and wanted me to see the how to close a library for the end of the year. Within the next few weeks I received about 4 more calls to interview. I am about 99.9% sure I would have also received and offer from all of them. I think it is very important to go into an interview confident. Now I'm not saying I wasn't nervous and didn't fret about how I was going to get a job. I was extremely worried, but it all works out. I wish everyone the best of luck and if you need help on how to answer interview questions, especially for elementary, please feel free to ask. Also, if there are other new librarians, let's chat!

The website for online applications is njhire. You complete an application and attach a resume. If you see a job there that you're interested in, you can send your information online.

It's almost official, so add me to the list.
I just received my contract...just need to sign and turn in.
I was offered job with a 5/6 combo class in central Wisconsin.

How long have you been trying? Graduated in 2002, but didn't start looking until 2005 (was living temporarily out of state, so didn't look for full-time work right away, and each time I moved it was after school had already started)...so this is my 3rd year of serious job searching.
How many resumes did you send out? At this point, couldn't even tell you..but area is very rural, so basically I've been applying to the same 15 districts for three years straight
How many interviews or job fairs? no job fairs, only 4 interviews

I will actually be working in the school I attended as a kid...and where my mom still teaches. I'm hoping for a great first year!!! :D

Just found this thread and wanted to say Congratulations to everyone who has a new job!! :2up:

I hope to be able to add my name to the tally soon. I graduated in Spring 2006 and have been subbing since then. I subbed day to day from Nov 2006-June 2007 then I did a long-term year long stint in fifth grade this past year.

I haven't sent out resumes because I'm trying for a job in one district and the way teachers are hired is by bidding on jobs as they are posted. The jobs are posted for one week and the person who bids with the most seniority within the district gets the job (basically). They look at other things, but only after the years of experience. So I have ONE big year. Puts me ahead of new graduates from here on out, assuming I keep working at least 135 days a year, but chances aren't the greatest right away. I would be happy with another long term for the year since it will insure that I keep my insurance and I'll get regular teacher pay again, but I would absolutely LOVE to teach at the same school where I taught last year! I do have a few other schools I'd be happy with, though

Thank you for starting this thread because it gives me hope and something to look forward to...

This is fantastic. Hopefully you all aren't as obsessed about a new job as I am. I can't stop thinking about it and I have even been panicking with all the things I need to do before the start of the school year.

    I guess I am lucky number 101! :D

I graduated in December '06, and after that, I got a pretty good job as an in-school math tutor. However, I have been dying to have my own classroom! I will be teaching 8th grade math, and I am so excited.

I was about ready to give up hope for this school year, and then BAM...I get called back by a district I had interviewed with earlier in the summer last Friday for a second interview, and they offered me a job yesterday! So, to those still looking...never give up hope!
