    I feel you!

I love the way you put it....I too feel like I am floating in a sea of uncertainty. I am a May Grad. and doing to job hunt hot and heavy...a few interviews, but things look bad here with low numbers. I am working on not getting depressed! :|

This is my first posting and it's so exciting to get to say that yes I have a job for next year! I will be teaching the 4th grade starting at the end of this month. I'm so excited and yet so nervous at the same time! I know that with the budget cuts here in California that I am extremely blessed to have been offered a job esp. as soon as I finished my credential/master's program. I pray that those of you who are still looking will not give up! I sent out tons of applications, went to job fairs where the recruiters more or less laughed in my face, and was only offered one interview (for the job that I was offered). It was starting to get really discouraging but I had my faith and trust in the Lord and in His timing everything worked out! So Don't Give Up!!!!

Here I go, I somehow missed this thread, I was hired in May though.

How long have you been trying? I was trying for about a month
How many resumes did you send out? I applied for about 100 jobs on our district's website, all which were sent resumes. I sent resumes to two other special ed. schools which weren't part of the county system.
How many interviews or job fairs? 2 or 3
What general geographic area? southern Florida
And of course what grade and/or subject? Middle School and High School Science, Algebra, Life Skills, and Reading

First of all let me say that this forum is AWESOME! I discovered it on a day when I was really depressed about not finding a job and it has helped me so much! I'm so excited to say I have a job! I just got it on Monday so I still can't believe it. I've wanted to be a teacher since I was 5 so its so weird that it's actually happening!

How long have you been trying? Since March
How many resumes did you send out? Oh gosh.Tons! 30 maybe?
How many interviews or job fairs? So many! At least 10 maybe more.
What general geographic area? Southern Louisiana. I'm moving from north Texas in 2 weeks and I still need an apartment. Yikes!
And of course what grade and/or subject? Kindergarten! I'm the only kinder teacher in the school so its gonna be a crazy year but I am SO excited!

Hi all!!! I have been reading your posts for weeks and you have given me so much inspiration!!! I got a job teaching 4th grade. I am 11 years into teaching, but I just moved to a new state. I have been in the process of this for 2 years now. For this upcoming school year I started applying in March. I have sent out over a hundred resumes and filled out countless of those ghastly online applications!

A couple of weeks ago I received a job offer to teach at a charter school. I was very excited, but was worried they would not keep me around in the long run due to salary etc. Well, the next day I received a phone call for another interview in a great school district! I got the job. It was difficult to tell the first I could not accept their offer, but I just could not pass up this opportunity!!! I will be teaching 4th grade, which I also taught last year so I am so excited!!! I have met my new colleagues and have visited my classroom. Wish you all luck, hang in there. It will all come in time!

Congratulations to everyone who recently got a new job! To those that are still looking...keep at it! Patience, Persistence, and Pressure (as in you put pressure on the schools by sending resumes, calling, e-mailing P's, etc.)!

So I had an interview that seemed promising on Tuesday. I was told I would hear back by the end of the week, and when I didn't hear anything yesterday, I was kind of bummed. But then I got an email from the principal today inviting me to be part of their team! I'll go in Tuesday to sign contracts!

How long have you been trying?
    about 1 - 2 months.
How many resumes did you send out?
    6 or 7.
How many interviews or job fairs?
    One.
    What general geographic area?
    Los Angeles.
And of course what grade and/or subject?
    high school math.

I have a very unique background so I think I was just incredibly lucky to find a school that matched the kind of experience I had. (it's a performing arts charter school and I've been working as an on-set teacher for child actors).

There's SO much more involved in being a studio teacher (actual job title) than teaching. If it were just about education, it'd be different. Your main job is actually dealing with production. It's a lot more glamorous than it sounds! :) If you're interested in it though, PM me and I'll tell you all about it and how to get involved. Although, to be honest, you really have to live in California or be in an area that does a lot of filming.

    Got a job

I'm new to this forum, but reading about everyone's experiences over the past couple of months have helped. I started looking for a job in Feb., when I found out I had to move because of my husband's job. I had trouble with PA giving me a full certification even though I had been a teacher for 4 years with a master's degree. There also weren't many jobs in PA so I started applying in NJ. I sent out over 50 resumes, went to one job fair and signed up for online applications. I went on 5 first interviews and taught 2 sample lessons. Social Studies jobs in NJ don't come easy. On some interviews I was told that 200 people applied. The process required sometimes 2 or 3 interviews and teaching sample lessons. This was hard because I lived 7 and a half hours away. I ate the costs and made the trips and finally I was offered a job. It is an hour and ten minutes away, but the district is amazing and the pay is great. My parents live 25 minutes away from the school, so I plan on staying with them a couple of nights during the week to save on gas and time. It's better than subbing.:)

I filled out my paper work today :)

How long have you been trying? I started sending resumes out in the end of May

How many resumes did you send out? About 20.

How many interviews or job fairs? 5 interviews, no job fairs.

    What general geographic area? Pennsylvania

And of course what grade and/or subject? High School FACS (Family and Consumer Science, once upon a time known as "home ec.")

I have my el ed certification and did the FACS as an add-on by taking the Praxis exam. It is a subject area I'm very excited about teaching. It's not for certain at this point but I believe I'll be teaching "Intro to Food Prep" and "Nutrition and Fitness." I'm really looking forward to it!

Isn't everyone so excited to be finally employed in the field of our dreams? Who is wishing fall would hurry up or who wants this summer to go by even slower? :)

Congratulations! I also live in Southern CA and have only had one school interested in interviewing me...I have applied all over but it seems like there are just LOTS of other applicants. Is that what you experienced?

I taught at a school for 2 years about 50 minutes from my house. It actually isn't as bad as you would think. The drive there gave me time to think about what I was going to do that day. The drive back gave me time to disconnect myself from school. I actually enjoyed it. Congrats on the job. I can't believe how many people applied for that job!!! You must be one awesome teacher!!! :2up:
