Okay, so I know a few have posted that you got a new teaching job for fall but I can only remember one! (age setting in) If you got a job, can you post here and let everyone know the basics like How long have you been trying? How many resumes did you send out? How many interviews or job fairs? What general geographic area? And of course what grade and/or subject? Hopefully our list will be huge within a few weeks or months. Lemonhead
Well, I have a job for next year. But I hope to be changing that soon. Thanks for making this thread lemon! I'll hopefully be able to post something on here in the next couple months! *Fingers crossed*
Oh, for the day I come and post, "Me!" I'm still floating in the sea of uncertainty while the jobs sift down. I found out my daughters' school has an opening for 4th next year, but there is another week of internal posting before it will be listed. That's so other teachers can move around if they want to.
Good morning I have been teaching for 2 years, and have been trying to get a new job for 1.5 years. I sent out many resumes, wrote many letters. I went to 4 real interviews at the school during this time frame. I went to 1 job fair, where I got 2 of the interviews. I am in suburb of Atlanta, Ga. I teach Biology, health, Global Science to high school students. I got a job at my dream school this past month. I am so excited! I hope everyone else has the same luck too!
Hi everyone! This is my first post here, but I've been following along here for WEEKS as I've been preparing to interview! I interviewed yesterday morning for an early childhood special education position and got the call this morning, this was my #1 choice for schools and I have a job!!! How long have you been trying? I graduated last December, have been subbing this spring long term. I have been trying since last October or so How many resumes did you send out? I sent out about 12 resumes/applications to schools in my area How many interviews or job fairs? I had one screening interview last December. Other than that, the interview I had yesterday was my FIRST! What general geographic area? Nebraska And of course what grade and/or subject? Early Childhood Special Education!
Congrats, scienceteach and kmECE!! I'm hoping for the day that I can come on here and tell you guys I got a job. Thanks, lemon, for creating this thread! It will help us still searching to live vicariously through others. And to keep us positive!
How long have you been trying? I started looking in January and getting my stuff together, but it has definitely been on my mind since fall (I have been a little obsessed) How many resumes did you send out? I think just 2...but with my first resume I got hooked up with another principal, which eventually led to the job offer. How many interviews or job fairs? 2 interviews (one was screening), no job fairs (I never felt that these would help me) What general geographic area? Chicago And of course what grade and/or subject? 2nd grade general ed...dream job! I feel very lucky!
Thanks and congrats to those who found jobs so far. I know there are a couple more. And many, many more to follow
I sent out 50+ applications to local districts (45 mins. commute or less) and went to one job fair for my county. I did get contacted for a job that I'm not certified for (but something that I'm eligible for) and didn't apply for, but I'm going to look into it. It's a high school tv/video production job (what my BA's concentration is in) and I'm searching for an elementary ed. job. There are maybe a handful of elementary jobs posted in total at the 50+ districts I applied to. I was told that many of these jobs are being filled internally (either teachers are moving to other grades or other staff members are filling them). I'm hoping there are more openings after they finalize the budget for next year. I'm starting to panic right now, but I'll be even worse if I don't get some calls by the end of the month! Good luck to everyone!
How long have you been trying? Not that long actually--- I just graduated in December and I put off doing anything until after the holidays. I then started doing alot of job searching and signed up for web-sites to send me info on job openings. I thought because I didn't actually have my license in my hands alot of schools wouldn't want to even look at my applications. So I decided to sign up at this company who handles teacher applications for private schools--- it was free for me so I thought why not!?! By March I had my first interview, by April I had my job How many resumes did you send out? Technically... none. I signed up at Monster, some New Jersey education web-sites that post job openings, and at Carney, Sandoe, and Associates (for private and independent schools). I did everything online so I never had to use one postage stamp. How many interviews or job fairs? Two--- one over the phone with the Supervisor of the Science Dept, one face-to-face to meet the Supervisor and the Headmaster of the Middle School and to teach a class. The second time I went there I already knew I was going to be offered the job, so I met with the Headmaster of the whole school and chatted with him a bit and he told me officially. What general geographic area? I live in central Jersey, but the school is in north Jersey so I'll be moving up there this summer (with gas costing so much I could NEVER commute--- over an hour away). And of course what grade and/or subject? I'll be THE 5th grade science teacher (THE for the one and only in the grade).
BioAngel--What is your degree, license, certification? Sounds like you specialized in Science. Seems like it is the general elementary having the most trouble :K-8 PreK-3
My degree, as you guessed, is a B.S. in Adolescent Education in Biology, though I am eligible for General Science certification as well in the state of New York. But I live in NJ so I would have to get licenses transferred over, etc to work in a public school here. (sorta messy) So the private school I'll be working at only looks at the degree part (no certification needed, but it does look good). I honestly wouldn't have taken an elementary school job unless it was just teaching science (I'm not sure how well I would do teaching other subjects---though if necessary I would do it if it was at the right school).
Don't lose hope everyone...all of my job offers have always come in the summer! In NJ, once the school budgets are voted on next week, job vacancies will start to be posted a lot more frequently. Good luck to everyone!
Thanks for that reminder. What you say is very true, many job openings come later. Some even right before school starts in the fall.
I just got my job today! Here are my stats: How long have you been trying? I tried last year at just 4 schools, one seriously and now this year How many resumes did you send out? I filled out 3 online apps for different districts and included my resume of course. I distributed 13 resumes at a job fair and 2 in person. How many interviews or job fairs? 3 interviews, 1 job fair What general geographic area? Dallas-Fort Worth, TX And of course what grade and/or subject? First Lemonhead
Well, I accepted an offer today, so I suppose I'll join the growing list of newly employed teachers! :2up: How long have you been trying? The first job fair I went to was on February 26, so I guess I probably started getting my resume and cover letters together a few weeks prior to that. How many resumes did you send out? I applied to 11 districts in all (basically the equivalent of giving them an e-resume), but I only sent a paper resume to three of them. How many interviews or job fairs? Three job fairs, two of which resulted in interviews. Four interviews total. Three different job offers. What general geographic area? Northeast Georgia (near Athens), though I also applied for 4 districts on the GA coast since I love it down there. And of course what grade and/or subject? High school biology (10th grade) and physical science (9th grade). Hopefully in a year or so I will be able to start an oceanography class as well, which is so exciting!!! I'm just glad my search is over and now I can start planning for my classroom. ~Briana~

Also, this week I faxed about 20 resumes and yesterday I got a call for another interview. I have to call tomorrow and cancel that interview. I will teach first grade in NYC. Congratulations to everyone who has gotten a job. Tomorrow I have a job fair for the district I would like to get into. My husband and I are building a house in this school district, so it would be convenient for me. I've had 2 screening interviews so far and then the job fair tomorrow. So I will have to let you know how it goes. I'm super nervous!!!
I'll be going to one tomorrow too, my first one. I've been thinking about it all week & feel that my head is going to explode from so much research!!
