At this point in the year in which I have roughly 5 weeks left of work (once this week is over), I just feel completely & utterly DRAINED! I'm completing my 2nd yr in my position & I've been in grad school & even though I'm used to hard work, this is just way too much all at once to do! The subject matter is rigorous...10x's worse than when I was working on my 1st Master's. :dizzy:

I actually want a less demanding job for next year with less responsibilities, stress, & pressure while I continue through grad school. I still have some brutal-looking courses ahead! I don't care about making less money. As long as I can still afford my rent & bills, I'm good.

I'd honestly quit my job right this second if I won the lottery. I guess I'd finish grad school because I've come a long way & worked hard so far, but I'd have a more carefree/nonchalant attitude.

    You're preaching to the choir
This is the time of the year when we all feel like we are going to drop! But with spring break and State testing kind of gives us a respite If it wasn't so much work to set up for a sub it would be a nice to take a mental health day.

I feel this way with my retirement ....

Do you know when you are retired you don't get a day off!

I am feeling pretty worn down. Adding to my stress is that there's an issue with a certain type of insurance I've been paying into for the past five years or so, but the school board never set up the policy. So, now I have that type of problem, and can't see the specialist I need to because I don't have that kind of insurance. And I'm really wondering where all the money they've been taking out of my paycheck has been going.

Also, as with most schools, this is the crazy part of the year where it seems like there is something every single night at the school, meetings before and after school and during planning each day, as well as observations, post-tests, data analysis, etc. Our seniors only have two more weeks at school, and I'm not nearly where I thought I would be with them at this point.

:hugs: ms I...you've had a lot of changes and stress this year...new apartment/moving out of home, new job, grad school, loss of your dog:(....it's no wonder you feel drained. I read in your other post that you won't have your current job next year...that's another stress.

What are you doing for you? How do you relieve stress when you feel this way?

Hang in there! I know it's rough, but the light at the end of the tunnel is that the end of the school year is close. Aside from the stress of everything going on, are you not enjoying your job anymore?

We have 7 weeks left and I am so ready. We have testing every week for the next 4 weeks and it just messes with the schedule and the kid's moods. I am also mentally 'done'. It's been a long year. Thankfully, the end is in sight.

This year has been brutal! I've never worked so hard in my whole life! Thanks czacza & TamiJ.

czacza, yes I've had a lot of things happening as this school year concludes. I knew this 2nd year would be harder than my first because more would be expected of me & I understood that completely. I'd love to get a SLPA job (asst. to the SLP).

I just want to finish out these last weeks fast & relax because this summer, I'll have no work nor grad school.

TamiJ, I'd enjoy my job a whole lot more once I know more about what I'm doing. There's a lot of detailed, tedious things to watch out for when doing the paperwork, making sure the high profile kids & their parents are satisfied, etc.

I never had an undergrad degree in the field of the grad program I'm in now, so I missed that good foundation. I'm doing well in my classes, but I've requested my grad school set me up w/ a tutor, who seems flaky because she still hasn't contacted me in over a month to schedule meetups with me. I was hoping to have met with her 2-3 times by now. I've asked my grad school to start looking for someone else to set me up with. This is ridiculous that she's leaving me hanging. The pattern so far has been, I emailed her 2x & she'd finally reply a short reply after a long time, but then nothing.

That's a bummer about your tutor. Could you ask around with your classmates and see if anyone else tutors? Or ask at another nearby college? I know you're ready for a break!

Me. Our last test is Tuesday, and I'm going for a massage after school that day. :woot: I'm tired, stressed, eating crap and not working out, and TBH some kiddos are really wearing on my nerves. The kids aren't getting PE time because of scheduling mishaps - nobody's fault, just one of those "the cookie crumbles" kind of things.

The rest of the year will go by in a blur because we'll be crazy busy - field trips, track and field day, a presentation, farm safety day, etc. We've got so much going on that I don't think I'll be able to see the forest for the trees until the day school is out.

Me! I am just tired. It will get better in about 2 weeks when DH's work project is over and he is back to a regular schedule and I'm not taking care of the kids and house by myself too. State tests are next week here and even though I don't test my kids, the building stress is crazy!

Oh I know that feeling. I work at a K-12 Charter school so we are feeling from elementary, middle, and high. My kids are so over testing that it is not funny.

    True TennisPlayer!

I'll see what I can do & yes, I'm so ready for a break. This past Thanksgiving, I got an annual pass for an amusement park (Magic Mtn) for the 1st time in my life. So far I've gone2x, but I may go the end of May & then at least once in the summer probably.

Mine too, and we still have two days coming up. In fact, today I told them to line up to go to the computer lab (something they normally love) and half of them groaned and asked, "Do we have ANOTHER test?" :(

Well, I have 9 more weeks until vacation (then I get 2 weeks off before summer school) so I will probably be tired and burned out after about 2 more weeks. I am thinking about taking a personal day sometime in May to make a 3 day relaxing weekend.

2am on Friday night (well, Saturday now). I just finished a 35 page case study/paper. 'Nuff said. Editing and starting other homework tomorrow. Who ever said teaching programs are easy? :dizzy:

I'm drained from my own schooling, but my job isn't stressful and I enjoy it.

Same here...but I still feel like I've run into a wall lately. I'm so ready for summer to be here so I won't feel so exhausted, but I don't want it to come so I can keep this group forever! It doesn't help that next year's class is a pretty difficult one. (We only have one class per grade;I already know my students pretty well before they're in my class.)

I know how that feels! I was started 2 new major things at the same time: Grad school & work.

Nothing yet. I'm applying to be a SLPA (Speech-Language Pathology Asst.) for at least the next year, if not two. They still make good money too. It's mandatory to have an undergrad degree or equivalent for that alone.

By the way, it's been a long story regarding why I won't be a SLP anymore & I won't talk about here.

Oh ok. Well I am sure you will find something. It's too bad the SLP didn't work out. I know how excited you were in the beginning. Sounds like you are doing what is best for you, though.

I'm worn out. I feel like I'm doing so much more than I did in the regular classroom, but I get no credit for it. I'm expected to do MANY after school groups for no pay, and I just found out teachers get paid for after school tutoring. I also just heard I might be responsible for an additional 6-8 concerts a year (when I already have around 10-12 performances a year). It's just too much, especially when I hear teachers say how I have a "cake" job. Sorry, I'm just frustrated today and needed to vent!

Thanks. When I'm more ready, I'll get another SLP job again. The district director persuaded me to take the job & I wanted to try it, but apparently, I bit off a bit more than I could chew. I was afraid it would be too much.

No, you're so right Major! What I really need to do is detox my body, have a better diet, do yoga, & exercise by walking outdoors & at the gym...I don't (& now can't) jog.

    Ms. I,

"Just Do it".... Just force yourself out the door and walk. Walk at whatever speed you can for whatever distance you can safely do. Go to the gym and workout for whatever time you can at whatever level you can safely do. Maybe that's just 15, 20, 30 minutes.... whatever "Just Do It"....... Build up your strength so you can increase your workouts a small bit at a time..... and over time you will find you have energy and strength you never imagined....

    Go for it......... :)

I'm seriously drained for the following reasons:

    1. My teammate. She is REALLY annoying. I've written a post about her before, but to sum it up, she has no life outside of school and is kind of a kiss-a**, so whenever the P or any of the administration is around she likes to show off and act like "Super Teacher" (usually by making the rest of the team look bad) then when admins aren't around she wants to leech off everyone elses' hardwork and ideas

    2. Kick Boy. He gets no attention at home, so all day he's extremely needy, but not in a sweet, endearing way. He talks over other children, is a bit of a know-it-all, constantly whines and complains of nonexistant aches and pains, isn't kind to other children, and of course he has physically attacked me twice.

    3. The mice leaving feces EVERYWHERE

    4. The P playing favorites (she only recognizes the same 5 teachers over and over again. They can do no wrong. Everytime there's a staff meeting, she has 1 - 2 of them stand up and share something wonderful they've done in their classroom. Then she goes on and on about their wonderfulness)
