It's confusing because they have different sizes, too. I just have the hand-held version. I guess you could buy just one and see if it's good.

I don't use them because I teach big kids, but I know you can make them with PVC pipe. Here are some instructions:

    I haven't tested them.

They are also available in the Scholastic points catalog this year!

I also make the hand-held variety out of pvc piping. It's cheap, easily sanitzable, and cheap to replace if lost or broken or just too dirty to clean.

I have the headset variety. Not worth it. The headset part pops off and the kids spend more time trying to connect them than reading. Save your $$.

I bought the stuff to make them and sent it to the Ag Shop class. The boys cut the pipe and constructed them for me. I made a class set of 25 for less than $10. And the ag teacher (my husband got a project for the day and taught the boys how to cut and prepare pvc pipe for plumbing. It was a win-win situation for both of us!)

I guess I wasn't quite clear. I know how to make the handheld whisper phones out of PVC pipe/elbows. I am interested in the version that the student wears on their head like at a call center.
That way they have their hands free for reading, pointing, turning pages etc. If anyone knows how to make the handsfree version, I'd love to know.
