When you're meeting with your groups for guided reading, what are the rest of the students doing?

I've always had my kids working on an independent reading novel and project. That aside, is anyone willing to share what other things their kids do during this time?

    Thanks!

Independent reading, responding to literature, meeting in literature circles, completing a follow-up assignment to the minilesson, or working in centers. I teach 4th and 5th grade reading for what it's worth.

Independent Reading and Reader's Notebook letters. I think its very important for them to be able to build up a reading stamina.

Independent reading, partner reading, word work, writing about literature. We work on each of these in 30 minute increments, then rotate.

I have my kids do literacy centers. I purchased the book "Take it to your seat Literacy Centers" by Evan Moor. These are all made into folders that kids can use, They are great! I also have a word study center with Boggle, Scrabble, some word ladders that I printed out and laminated. I have a poetry center, with books and response questions. I have a Writing Center with gel pens and other cool paper, some writing prompts and journal entries, etc. These are all in dishtub bins. The kids rotate every 15 minutes, 4 times. They love it!
