I got the keys to my classroom today and I'm ready to go... except my floors have only been partially waxed, so I'm stuck at home for two more days  And I've been wondering... out of all the bazillions of graphic organizers that are out there, which ones work the best for you?

My school (and I suppose my district) has several that are supposed to match up with each concept tested on the state assessment (character analysis, main idea, summary, inferences/generalizations, sequence, etc) but they're all very dull in appearance and have been used by everyone on the campus. I'm not necessarily looking for flash and bang, just some tried and true things that are a bit off the beaten path.

We use thinking maps. If you check out the website, they offer many examples of how to use them.

We use the thinking maps, too, and our fifth grade is very much into using them. They are incredible for beginning-of-the-year getting to know you activities, too. :)
