I would like to use Ms. Powell's "Token System" http://www.mspowell.com/tokensystem.html in my classroom this year. I am curious about what to use for the tokens and where to find them. If you have used this in your classroom or have any ideas, they are more than welcome!

I ordered "I caught you being good" tokens from Smilemakers. I ordered them befor I read about the "token system". But I plan on using them for that.

Try a party supply store. You might find fake treasure for a pirate themed party.

    Thanks for the fast replies!

I love all the ideas, but was wondering how hard it would be to write numbers on the gold coins? I was already thinking about using the poker chips b/c of the need to write on them.

I bought counters from the teacher store. I got the opaque ones that are red on one side and white on the other. I wrote the numbers on both sides with a sharpie so its easy to see and I put them in a bead organizer I got from the craft store.

Thanks! I guess I need to go to the teacher store (though I have been avoiding it like the plague -- $$$).

BTW -- it is so nice to know that I am not the only one who spends my Friday nights reading posts.

This site is addicting. It really is. I hear ya about the teacher store. I have to go in there with a list and from time to time stop and focus on it so I don't get off track and spend more than I need to.

I'm doing that token system, too. What about bingo chips? I've been looking online, and I've only found clear ones (I want opaque), but if you find some, let me know :)

I bought a tackle box at Walmart the other day to hold the tokens. I'm really excited about this plan!

the problem with items bought at walmart, is ANYONE can buy 1000 tokens at walmart and just add them into the pile, saying "how come Billy has 40 extra, where did he get those?"

I have Skinner bucks in my class, where the kids cannot replicate, or make their own stashes. I have 2 embossers that press through the waxy laser paper, and note that now it is impossible to do anything but to EARN them from me.

I'm Canadian, so that is why they are coloured the way they are. These mimic the actual colours of (or closely resembles) the Canadian currency.

    Check them all out here:

or here is what the $100 looks like:

I saw multi-colored counters at Staples (around the flashcards). I was going to use them, but they only had 1 pkg. Oriental Trading has them and they're pretty cheap. I also thought about Poker Chips.

Mark the poker chips in a way that no one can duplicate to prevent illegal extras and keep the stash put away.

A tackle box is a great idea for storage! I had also thought of a craft box like I used to store cross stitch thread in years ago.

I was thinking of trying that idea but I was just going to use laminated pieces of paper.

What about drawstring bags (to hold earned tokens)? I bought some at Michael's before, but now they don't sell them. I already checked Target and Wally World.

H20, I'm curious about your tokens, but the 2 links you gave didn't work. Can you try to post again, or PM me? Thanks

I do something similar to the token system, but I give out blank raffle tickets (not the ones from the teacher store...they are overpriced). The student then writes his/her name or # on it and drops it in the fish bowl. I just load up my pocket with some in the a.m. and it helps remind me to reward for all of those positive behaviors.
