    Hi, all :)

I have decided that I want to buy a large classroom rug for our group time and morning meeting. I have googled, but I was hoping someone could suggest a cheaper website for these rugs. I really don't want to spend $400 if I can help it!

    :thanks:

Some times you can find them at good will, or one of those discount furniture stores.

Do you have an IKEA near you? They have a large variety of rugs for pretty cheap!

WalMart has regular rugs for $20. I got one before my big classroom one came in....If you put 2 of those together it would be pretty big (bigger than my 1 big classroom one). Just depends on what you want. They are one single color with nothing on them....Not much help if you're looking for one of the "cute" ones.

I got very nice (good quality) rugs @ K-Mart for $30. They were colorblocked in red, blue, green, and beige. They held up great and were used daily. I put two together and they were very large, bigger than a normal classroom rug. I am not @ school (SUMMER BREAK !!!!!!!!!) but I think they ended up being 11 x 18 or so.

I had purchased one and had to take it back because it did not say 'fire retardant/resistant". You may want to check with the custodian first before purchasing.

you can also get those puzzle peice style mats. They aren't a rug persay but they do last longer and can be taken apart for individual seats, etc. I will be buying mine for next year at Lowes. I think it'll be about $50. Last year I went first with a $20 walmart rug which frayed within 2 weeks. Then I got a standard rug that held up nicely but became very dirty and began to curl. I'm hoping the puzzle peice mat will be just what I'm looking for! =)

Big Lots has really good prices. I got a 5 x 8 for about $15 last year. They have bigger ones, too.

Those rubber puzzle pieces got all messed up when I used them so I just tossed them out.

Upsadaisy - How did they get messed up? Now I'm rethinking my idea. Can you share details please?

They got really dirty from sneakers, and the bottoms of them collected all sorts of crud from the floor. I didn't have a huge rug made of them, though, just a long walkway, so it might not be so bad with a rug. If they don't walk much on it.

This has nothing to do with a rug...but the puzzle piece mat that was mentioned above makes a very cute alphabet for the wall.

I purchased a 12 x 10 (or about that large) rug from Ross Dress for Less for $49.99.

I used the puzzle pieces in a pinch my first year when I had nowhere to sit the first day of school. If you are using the ones I am thinking of (each letter is on a puzzle piece, and the letters pop out), it made me MISERABLE. It slid all over the place, caused a kid or two to fall before I was able to chuck it, they pulled the letters out, the pieces came apart if they moved too quickly, I could go on and on. Ugh. I will never use it again!

Someone told me to go to Home Goods, TJMaxx, and Marshalls in the hope of finding a twin flat sheet to make valances out of. No such luck. (only sell sets) But I did notice that they had rolled up carpets with red clearance tags. If these stores are in your area perhaps you might find something there.

Maybe Ross has a twin flat sheet... or perhaps Target.

It's good to see places that have decent-size rugs for a moderate price.

Decided I was wasting my gas looking for this one item. Heading to Joann Fabrics to pick up a yard or two tomorrow. I know I'll have a much better selection. I really want a fun print. Thanks for your suggestions.

I am also looking for a large rug for my classroom and I may be considering a rug from Oriental Trading. It is 8'x 12', flame resistant and under $200. I tried to put the link but it took up half the page!

I found a roll of carpet on craigslist. It fits almost half of my room and it was $80.

At Sears they only sell sheet sets, but they have some "great price" sets for 19.98 even if you get King Size. They are obviously low thread count, but I am assuming you want to use them for bulletin boards. Some of them are really ugly weird prints as far as sheets go, some are plain and some are cute prints, but they might work for bulletin boards.

Does anyone have to worry about lice:eek: ??
I had a nice large braided rug that use to be in my MIL house so I brought it in last year. The janitor told me I couldn't keep it because "little critters" might get in in?? So I took it out because I didn't want to rock the boat (1st year at this school). So this year I am thinking of getting some smaller rugs that I could take out easily and wash if that would solve the issue.

You-know-whats can get into the regular rugs as well. We have regular carpet underneath the carpet in our meeting area, but it's industrial carpet and can still harbor critters.

I have been wanting a rug for several years but couldn't justify the price. I was walking though Walmart and saw grass beach mats on sale for $1.50 each. They are 36X66 and have colorful borders. They always seemed pretty sturdy for beach use so I bought three of them. I will use them as my rug for calendar/group floor time. We'll see how they work. If they don't work I'm only out $4.50.

    Decorating our floors

Decorating our floors with Rugs is a very good option that would provide our outdoors a clean and chic look.

I have used the "puzzle piece" rubber mats and though I liked them very much, they did get dirty and I was washing it almost every day.
