I know that somem parts of the country are crying out for teachers. (I also know that I don't live in one of them.) For the sake of those people looking for a job and willing to relocate, could you let us know if you are aware of one of those "needy" areas? And provide any other info you think may be helpful? Thanks! PS- This may-- or may not-- be of some help: http://jobs.teachers.net/Teachers/S...x1dzs7Ck3iFn5VoCps0yQHJ40LlxTizJsBKYecC8uiYiI
The thing I keep hearing Alice is the need for Mathematics, Science, and Special Education teachers, specifically. I was just on the phone with a gal from HR w/Los Angeles Unified School District. She said these areas are in need in many states. General Ed is the surplus area that is being hit the hardest right now, and it's really hard to find jobs in elementary ed.
Yeah, that's why I started the thread. For example, I keep hearing that Vegas is crying for teachers. I imagine that there are some other isolated parts of the country that are as well. I thought we could start a clearinghouse for any info that someone might use. Here's the Vegas website:http://ccsd.net/jobs/
I subbed for a teacher in Los Angeles who recently moved to North Carolina. She told me they are in need of teachers. I am basing this on her info, I'll admit I haven't really researched it in much detail myself. However, allow me to contribute by submitting the link. Click Here for more info on teaching in North Carolina.
I know that in West Texas, there are more teachers than jobs. I had a really tough time getting hired and the jobs that are needed most are math and science. I'm certified Special Ed, but I'm not sure how much a demand there is for that now. Our school is full inclusion and has an interventionist that "roams" in and out of our classrooms.

This may help you check your local area: http://www.ecoemploy.com/newsp.html and remember: the SUnday papers tend to have the most job listings.
I am surre many of you have checked out this website in your quest for a classroom but I recieve an email almost daily for jobs in NC only because I put that down as a possible relocation area only because I have family still there. One email I received had 30 job possibilities in NC alone.I thought I'd give you the website anyhow: www.teachers-teachers.com
Try CA Have you tried CA, the Central Valley? Try have jobs there constantly! Go onto edjoin and look up the Valley, Stanislaus, Merced, San Joaquin counties and you should be in luck. Try southern CA also Sandiego San Bernadino areas. Best wishes to you, Liz
Thanks, Liz. Actually, I'm not looking. I teach math in a Jr/Sr HS on Long Island. But I know that so many ohter people are looking, so I thought we could help each other! Thanks for the info! Alice
We'll need a science teacher for 4th through 8th next year in West Palm Beach, FL. Private school. Small classes.
Chicago Public Schools are hiriing I'm sure. Though the areas that are hiring are probably not the most desirable schools to work in. It's a challenge, but with a challenge comes rewards! The site is temporarially down.... http://www.cps-humanresources.org/Text/Careers_txt/vacancies_teach_txt.htm
http://www.edjoin.org/ here is the wb site, choose districts and look at Stanislaus, San Mateo, Riverside, Scramento, San Bernardino, San Joaquin and Alameda. All have needs! They update new jobs daily and delete old ones so it is a great site to look for a job in CA. Best of luck to all. Liz
Check the website for Alamance-Burlington School System. We're located between Greensboro and Chapel Hill--both cities have universities--and the town in which I live--Elon--is home to Elon University, which partners with the school system. I mentiont the universities, because a lot of us take advantage of ongoing educational opportunities offered to teachers. Cost of living in NC is also reasonable. I moved here 17 years ago to get my master's degree at Duke. Best of luck!
I keep getting emails from teachers-teachers with lots of places in Florida that are looking...a lot of areas have new schools because new developments are popping up all over the place...Here in CT, there are too many elementary teachers though!
A good way to get a North Carolina teaching job is to simply use the state Online Application System, where you can submit an application to 95% of the districts in the state with one application. If you apply, I can assure you that you will be getting call from schools in a few days. Good Luck.
There are no jobs to be had here in Ohio...it is extremely competitive. In accord with some of the other people who have replied, Florida and North Carolina are where a lot of girls go after graduation. Las Vegas City School Disctrict actually came to our university last year (in Ohio) to recruit, they need teachers really bad.
THere is a job fair every June at the State fair grounds in Columbia South Carolina 2nd week. IF you decide to come, be sure to wear something cool, cause Columbia is hotter that a politicians sweaty armpit in June, and there is LOTSA high humidity!! They do hire out of staters mainly. Lower part of the state, near the coastline is the neediest. Special ed, any area, Middle school/ highschool are top priority. And yes, Science and Math in any area of this state is in high demand. Check out any of the critical needs areas by going to the state ed website. If you choose to call their 800 number, make sure you call Mon - THurs 1-4 pm only!!! (no, I don't remember the number, sorry) Go to www.cerra.org to find out about the job fair and to sign up online. You'll get your confirmation with in 10 days. Also try www.scteachers.org.. The "cerra" line is center for education recruitment and retention association and is based out of Winthrop University, Rock Hill SC. If all else fails, go through their website to connect up. If you've taken the Praxis, all the better. OR if you can qualify to teach in a critical needs area(check the state website out for the latest update). If you have your certification already, you can register with them for any area in this state. Be sure to update your files every 3-4 months as they like to know a candidate is "hungry". The lowcountry is so hungry for teachers, they do offer some very attractive incentive packages. The upstate region, where I am, is very saturated especially for elementary ed majors.
Does anybody know what's up with the teachers-teachers website? I've tried to go there several times throughout the last few days but I keep getting the "page not found" message. I've tried the links here and Googling.
According to the latest news report, Las Vegas is still facing a shortage of 500 teachers for the current school year.
I checked the local site for online applications. September jobs are starting to get posted. Those of you in the market for a new job: it's time to begin sending out those applications. Just a hint: keep a list of those jobs to which you've already applied! Happy hunting!
If I apply to school districts in general now, do I apply again when I see job postings later? How do I keep my resume at the top of the pile?
I just googled "PA teaching jobs." One of the first hits I got was this:http://www.pareap.net/jobsrch.php?srch=100 I didn't look carefully, but did try "elementary education" and found (I think) 12 jobs. Some may be long term subs for now. But some may be retirements or something, and the administrators want to get them settled. If it's anything like Long Island's "OLAS" site, some of the applications have closing dates. These are for particular jobs, not just a call for applications. So I say apply as soon as the job appears. Given the current job situation, jobs are going to be taken and disappear. You can always call or write and ask the status of your application.
Oh the CPS vacancies are back up and running. Though many of these are anticipated vacancies and schools that have had vacant positions for awhile and are paying subs... still a lot are actual vacancies... There are three different ways to search, but all show you different vacancies-- go figure--- but well hope it helps somewhat... http://www.cps-humanresources.org/Careers/VacByJob2.asp http://www.cps-humanresources.org/Careers/VacBySchool2.asp http://www.cps-humanresources.org/Careers/VacByRecent2.asp We hire BY PRINCIPAL HERE NOT BY DOWNTOWN...
I used it more as an example then really a lead. (Although you never can tell). I was trying to show that there are some Sept. vacancies posted now. I forget-- what's your cert in?
Texas is not hurting for teachers but is not overrun either, many districts start the school year out here with at least 20- 30 vaccancies. If you are Bilingual, you are sure to get hired over another teacher, the need is high for bilingual teachers from Dallas on down.
Texas I would be curious to know how the highschools are in Dallas. My husband applied for a job in Dallas.......so I maybe looking for a teaching job there at some point.
I teach at a High School near Dallas and I Love it. NOw it depends on where you teach though, some schools in Dallas are all hispanic and some of the outlying areas are too, in one direction from Dallas you get lower class schools with High poverty areas in the other direction you get high society. PM me with an area you are looking and I can give you a run down of that area and possibly some info on the school, I work in a middle class suburb of Dallas but I have worked at 3 other districts near there.
I taught in Richmond, VA for a few years and they hired a lot of teachers that had not met all of the requirements yet (such as passing Praxis tests after taking them several times). But you would have to be willing to work in a tough area demographically speaking. I loved it!
Just to let ya'll know, I've been to Teachers-Teachers.Com and have tried to have that placement agency place me. Unfortunately, they've been unsucessful thus far. Funny this question should be posed because I've been asking myself a lot lately as to where are all these so-called education jobs certain people keep talking about and you know what ... they're really just not there. Sad, but true and unfortunately for me, I'm just not ready yet to take any Spanish classes. I have quite a bit going for me right now as it is. But, it's still on my to do list!
Someone posted here http://forums.atozteacherstuff.com/showthread.php?t=31349 about teaching in a virtual school.
Phoenix area jobs, they recruit from all over: SATURDAY, MARCH 10, 2007 The Glendale Elementary School District and the Glendale Union High School District announce the 3rd Annual Teacher Job Fair. For more information, registration and interviews, contact 623-842-8124.
I don't know what is wrong with the site I clicked on the link and it took me to the log in page. I'm sure you tried this but did you try cutting and pasteing the link into the address bar?
