I have submitted three teaching applications (one is a district with 18 schools) to schools in California (where I am credentialed). The notice says they will review the applications "at the close of the application". Two positions have not closed yet, but one closed on March 19th. I have not heard anything. Is this normal? What does the time frame usually look like? I am getting nervous since I have heard nothing from any of the schools. Any insight and information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Even in normal circumstances a few weeks can be expected after the closing date but right now things might have been put on hold. I would wait a little longer before I got worried.
Generally, we would have completed all of our internal transfers at this point (April 1st) and postings to “outsiders” would have gone out. As I type this, we have done none of the above!
I don’t think you can plan on a set time frame this year. Districts are too busy grappling with how this year will end.
That I'm not sure of. At this point, we're only officially out through April, but I'm sure that will change. Normally we find out the second week of March what our tentative teaching assignment will be for the following year, but that hasn't been done yet. I'm not too concerned--more concerned about rolling out our transition to distance learning next week.
Everything is weird right now. I’d think all usual timelines are out the window. I know that we usually know about now if anyone is being let go, and we start posting jobs. We have at least two, maybe three, positions for next year. Who knows how interviews will work now. I don’t anticipate any moves within the building, so that will help.
I think that dealing with online school right now is the top priority and everything else will just have to wait. I believe that hiring for next year will be a very last minute thing this year and will probably not happen until the early summer. Dealing with the pandemic crisis is the top priority right now-- keeping students safe and emotionally well.
Oh, and our positions have to post for 30 days before we hire unless it less than 30 days until school begins or we are already in session.
You lazy bums. Next thing you know you'll want to pay bills online, read books online, listen to music online. I bet you love those online "video" streams too. *sigh* What is the world coming to?
One of our local school districts just announced that they aren't even going to post job openings for next school year until May 21st, so you can't even apply online until then. Everything is automated here anyway, but if the jobs aren't listed until May 21st, and you only allow a week for posting, it will still be May 29th before the principals and hiring committees get the first applications to review and then to set up interviews, so it will be early June before interviews even start. It's going to be a very late year for hiring this year.
Interviews are happening in districts local to me. They are few weeks delayed from when they were initially planned, but they are still taking place. Everything is over Zoom now, instead of face-to-face.
