There was zero interest in me for months (as I have whined about here).
Then I had a few interviews this summer and one semi job offer (for a part time job I could not work into being gainful with child care). Now I have a local technology/gifted children position interview today and a skype interview in a far away state for elementary. I hope something pans out.

I have never interviewed for a tech/gifted position before. Anybody have any suggestions or know of any such thing at their school?

I have a tech cert in PA but this job is in NJ. They tell me I qualify since I have an Elem cert here. I rarely get asked what I can do for gifted kids, I usually get asked how I would handle kids who are having academic issues. I guess I bring up project based learning and differentiation?

We have both a tech lab coordinator and gifted Ed teacher in my building ( different positions). Some things the tech coordinator does is work with classroom teachers to plan projects such as: book reviews put online, slide shows, skypeing with other schools, creating videos, research projects, web quests. Our gifted Ed teacher works in classrooms k-2 for enrichment (each class gets about a dozen sessions) and in grades 3 and 4, she pulls identified kids for the 'gifted class'. They do inquiry based, exploratory, problem solving kinds of explorations. I can imagine that a position combining aspects of both jobs could be very exciting! Good luck!

That sounds like a VERY cool and fun job!!!!! Lots of opportunity for creativity! I agree with the pp-- come with concrete examples of how you could facilitate differentiation and integrate technology into your teaching. Your tech cert I'm sure is a huge advantage here! Good luck!!!!!!

No, with my son's drop off time in the morning and my wife's work schedule, there is no way I could get to Trenton every morning for work.

Logistics like this have also severely limited my job search. It's a bummer but what can you do? There are only so many ways you can twist yourself into a pretzel before you snap!

Well, neither called back. I have also cut off the decision to leave my area. With a young kid and a wife who has many hours of work a week, it can't happen at this point.
