We teach it in third, although it used to be taught in second years ago. When do your students learn cursive?

Second grade, which I think is too early. Many of my fourth graders come in with poor manuscript skills, and don't really remember the cursive very well.

Has your district decided to continue teaching cursive as it is not in the common core? Our curriculum department has not decided what to do.

Never. It is not in the curriculum at all.

I don't think they will ever quit teaching cursive in our district.

It's now in 3rd, but used to be 2nd in my school. We now do handwriting without tears.

3rd, but casually. They aren't expected to use it in writing.

    3rd grade (it's a CA State Standard).

Normally, though, I start teaching it at the end of 2nd so my kiddos can get a head start.

It's really taught in 3rd, but I do a very basic intro during the last month of 2nd grade. The students are eager to learn it, and it's something to get the interested in during that last month.

Here in Spain it's taught from the beginning. Students first learn to recognize letters and write their names etc. in print capitals, but from there they move right to cursive for reading and writing.

At the private school where I previously taught, cursive was introduced in K4 (prek-4). I taught Kindergarten and the majority of my students could write their names/words beautifully in cursive!

The magic date here is February 1 in second grade! We teach it the last half of second grade and also in third grade.

We haven't taught cursive in years. If I have a child interested in learning, I will give them resources, but that's all I can do.

I wish it were part of the curriculum.

When I taught 2nd grade, we used to introduce cursive writing after the winter break. I feel that they are not ready in 2nd grade.

We review cursive letters in 3rd grade. However, I really start at the beginning and show the students the correct cursive letter formations.

Introduced the last half of second grade, reviewed in 3rd grade. About March, we switch over to doing all written work in cursive (an expectation in the upper grades at my private school).
