Earlier this month, I started a Summer program at my school. Officially, we start next week. So, I shrank my summer for profit. Boy, I'm so happy I did.

Yes, my whole school is special ed., but there are quite a few schools that are not special ed. that also have modified school years. I hate the short summers but I don't think I can go back to a traditional school calendar. When I was job hunting this year I found myself looking to see what kind of calendar the school was under.

I'm not much of a city person. I just bought a house in the suburbs knowing that I will be stuck in traffic every day. My drive to school before my move was 3 minutes. I have the feeling that I'm going to hate myself in the winter:D.

    Where are you working?

I work down south for Medicine Hat Catholic. I work in a k-6 school that houses our k-12 program. I live in a small town just outside of Medicine Hat. It is less than a 10 minute drive to my school as my school is on this side of town.

I go back Friday (July 30th).

I have a meeting in another town, and I have to meet my ride at 6:00 in the morning. Ugh. What a stinky way to start the year.

Our kids come back August 5th.

What a great drive mom2mikey! How large is your school. We only have 8 classroom teachers and an art/music teacher. Our school usually max's out at 64 students, but we usually have about 50 students.

I was in my room today moving all my furniture back where it belongs...have to find room for my assistant's desk (new assistant this year)...and I'll probably go one day next week to do my BB and put things away that way I have time to plan once we're back...

I was thinking the same thing. What goes on during that time? We have only have one day which is why we have to have our rooms before then. We have meetings for that day, so everything has to be ready before then. I want to be finished Friday, so I can have a few days in August for my family.

Our school itself has about 200 students in grade k-6. My classroom usually has between 8 and 10 students (10 this coming up year). We are the only "specialized classroom" in the school. Our school is a fine arts focused school so lots of great opportunities for all the students including the ones in my classroom.

August 18th is my first day back. I am leaving Thursday to go home for my sister's wedding and will not be back until the 15th. So, these last couple days are really my last days :(

Well my summer officially ends this Sunday (July 31).
I am a first time teacher. Monday I want to stop by my school and take pictures of my room. then from the 3rd-5th I have math and language arts academies. From the 9th-12th I have a conflict resolution/classroom management thing. Then new teacher orientation from the 17th-19th. Then teachers start back on the 23rd, kids on the 30th.

    SUMMER IS OVER!!!

Lucky you! I usually have the best behaved students in the school b/c a lot of their behaviours are due to their lack of understanding of the academics taught in a general ed. classroom, so with the individualized lessons I provide, they have way less behaviours than the other classes. Going to another class is usually not an option on a regular basis due to behaviours of the other students. I do make myself have my students join other classes just so I can see how they react to the other student's behaviours (to see whether or not they join in).

I would love to go to my class early but my principal told us no one is allowed in until August 9th. I'm sure the custodian would have let me in but I know for sure she would have told the principal and I would get the "look" from him

I will really miss sitting outside by the pool with my coffee and paper in the morning! But I'm excited to go back, too! I'm going back on Wed. Aug. 4th to set up class, then we all HAVE to be there Thurs and Fri for meeting, and more setting up our class. THEN, school starts August 9th! We will have a long way to go until Thanksgiving break! :) PS It is HOT here in August. This is the first year I will start in Aug. The other district I worked in for 10 years started after Labor Day. :D

We have to go back next Tuesday for meetings/classroom setup. I did the Math though and we only actually have about 8 hours of that time to get set up before open house on August 5th at 1:00. I have been in for about 5 hours so far and plan on going back in on Thursday to finish up. First break isn't until the 3rd week of October.
