Just wondering when everyone else starts their holiday break. We start ours tomorrow and it won't start a moment too soon. The kids have been totally and completely ready for the break all week :eek:hmy:
We are out until January 2nd when both we and the kids go back (no work day before they come this time).

I was just curious what the breaks were everywhere else.

My last day is the 21st and we go back the 7th. Two nice weeks of a break. Just enough to re-juvinate and then get back into the swing and start looking forward to spring break! I am planning a wedding for July so I need all the breaks I can get!

For the first time ever, we have less than two weeks. We go through the 21st, and are back the 2nd.
My dh is a pastor, so of course we need too stay through Christmas- so no more vacation trips for us during this break! Too short!

Originally was the 21st but went to the board and asked for the Friday off...the day's a waste and it allowed an extra day to get out for the holidays. We return on the 7th...kids on the 8th.

what?? a whole week in February..

It that supposed to be President's week?? :haha:

I would love that! that is the worst weather month around here!!!

I know they rolled Lincoln's birthday and Washington's birthday together in some schools, and call it President's Day. I think it is too confusing to the kids. And some parents are off for one but not both, and most business are closed. they need to be consistent. Like with Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday.

which, btw..is being pushed all the way to 1/21 this year. I wonder why? what is with this 3rd monday business anyways? Hard to remember when a person was actually born!

LOL MissFroggy you wouldn't be excited would you?

You look almost as excited there as I was when I got off 2nd load bus duty this afternoon @ 2:40. I survived the class holiday party and didn't loose my sanity and sent them home wired up on more hot dogs, cupcakes and drinks than I think it should be possible for kids to consume. That was AFTER the hot cocoa and caramels during our "polar express pajama party" this morning. Now after a 1/2 day work day tomorrow I don't have to worry about them until January 2nd.

Presidents' day I guess. I don't know we always have a week off in Feb and another one in April.
I don't really get the Feb vacation this year because I'm coaching the high school Alpine ski team and they have their state championships that week.

I'll trade you a week in February for a week in August!

I could go back early...too hot to do anything! I would like to go in early and just get the room together, have trainings, inservices, all that stuff they try to cram in..AFTER the kids are there!

I have never ever heard of a week off in February!! We have 2 weeks for Christmas break, 1 Week for Spring Break, and 2 months for Summer...

    Contracted schedule 181 days.

We go out on the 21st and return on the 2nd. My bf's job shuts down for the winter. They go out on the 18th and do not return until the 7th. So he gets payback on me for the summer every winter!:)

It started (around here anyway) during the energy crisis in the late '70's. With 2 holidays the same week (back then Lincoln's and Washington's birthdays were separate holidays), it became too expensive to open the schools, close them (and let them get cold) then heat them up again twice in the same week. It was so much cheaper to just close for the week.:D

I LOVE that week off!! No big holidays, nothing to prepare or shop for or cook, no one we have to see, just a week off with my family!!

We're a private school and the state says 180 days OR 1000 hours. (but we do more so we have a bumper if we have snow days.) We go by the hours, and this year have two weeks and two days off for winter break, a week in February for mid-winter, a week for spring break in April and a little bit of June, all of July and August off for summer.

We don't however have many staff development days off during the year (just 2, I think) and the other schools around here have a half day every Wednesday or every other Friday for staff development, meetings, etc. We don't have that at all. In fact, we only have 2 half days. The day before Winter break, and the last day of school.

Our staff development happens during school hours, and we have 1 hour working lunches with meetings. All of the staff eats at the same time, and we have a full faculty meeting and a staff/faculty meeting each week, and committee meetings and things during the other lunches.

The students go to school 176 days I believe and teachers go 185. We have one week off for Christmas, one week off in Feb, and one week off in April. We get out around June 20th and Teachers go back the week of August 18th. So we basically are in school the same amount of time.

Here in our system we get the 3rd week of February off which happens to also be the week that President's Day occurs. They call it our "Midwinter Break". We then have another break the first week of April and then are in until the end of May without a day off. That can be mighty long after we have taken the CRCT (state mandated testing) the third week of April. May is a VERY long month.

We start the end of July with kids and then have the first week of October off, the full week at Thanksgiving, the 2 weeks @ Christmas, and the ones I mentioned in the post above. The contracted days are 180 with kids, 9 days w/o kids plus 4 days where the kids are only there 1/2 days for conferences. That doesn't include professional development days and 1/2 day planning days when the kids are there but we are pulled for professional development.
